باب النَّهْيِ عَنْ مُبَادَرَةِ الإِمَامِ بِالتَّكْبِيرِ وَغَيْرِهِ:Chapter: The Prohibition Of Preceding The Imam In Saying The Takbir Or Anything Else
Hadith 415
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاق بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَابْنُ خَشْرَمٍ ، قَالَا : أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُعَلِّمُنَا ، يَقُولُ : " لَا تُبَادِرُوا الإِمَامَ ، إِذَا كَبَّرَ فَكَبِّرُوا ، وَإِذَا قَالَ : وَلا الضَّالِّينَ سورة الفاتحة آية 7 ، فَقُولُوا : آمِينَ ، وَإِذَا رَكَعَ فَارْكَعُوا ، وَإِذَا قَالَ : سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ ، فَقُولُوا : اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ " .
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) while teaching us (the principles of faith), said: Do not try to go ahead of the Imam, recite takbir when he recites it. and when he says: "Nor of those who err," you should say Amin, bow down when lie bows down, and when he says: "Allah listens to him who praises Him," say: "O Allah, our Lord, to Thee be the praise".

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ يَعْنِي الدَّرَاوَرْدِيَّ ، عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، بِنَحْوِهِ ، إِلَّا قَوْلَهُ : وَلا الضَّالِّينَ سورة الفاتحة آية 7 ، فَقُولُوا : آمِينَ ، وَزَادَ : وَلَا تَرْفَعُوا قَبْلَهُ .
A hadith like this has been transmitted by Hammam bin Munabbih from the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) on the authority of Abu Hurairah (RA) .

Benefits and Issues:

It is strictly prohibited to move before the imam when starting the prayer or when transitioning from one position to another.
➋
The noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum ajma'in) would lag so far behind the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) when moving from one position to another, that when the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would say "Allahu Akbar" and go into prostration (sujud), the Companions (radi Allahu anhum ajma'in) would remain standing in the standing position (qiyam) and would not bend for prostration until he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) had placed his blessed head on the ground.
