It is narrated on the authority of 'Imran bin Husain that the Prophet (ﷺ) (may peace and blessings be upon him) said: Modesty brings forth nothing but goodness. Bushair bin Ka'b said: It is recorded in the books of wisdom, there lies sobriety in it and calmness of mind in it, Imran said: I am narrating to you the tradition of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (may peace and blessings be upon him) and you talk of your books

It is narrated on the authority of Qatada. We were sitting with 'Imran bin Husain in a company and Bushair ibn Ka'b was also amongst us. 'Imran narrated to us that on a certain occasion the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (may peace and blessings be upon him) said: Modesty is a virtue through and through, or said: Modesty is a goodness complete. Upon this Bushair ibn Ka'b said: Verily we find in certain books or books of (wisdom) that it is God-inspired peace of mind or sobriety for the sake of Allah and there is also a weakness in it. Imran was so much enraged that his eyes became red and he said: I am narrating to you the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and you are contradicting it. He (the narrator) said: Imran reported the hadith, He (the narrator) said: Bushair repeated, (the same thing). Imran was enraged. He (the narrator) said: We asserted: Verily Bushair is one amongst us. Abu Nujaid! There is nothing wrong, with him (Bushair).
Ishaq bin Ibrahim narrates this hadith of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) on the authority of Imran bin Husain, like the one narrated by Hammad bin Zaid.

Hadith Commentary:
Vocabulary of the Hadith:
Waqaar:
To act thoughtfully and with understanding,
Not to display haste and rashness,
Closely related to it is sakeenah,
Tranquility, calmness, and steadfastness,
To avoid anxiety and panic.
Benefits and Issues:
It is not appropriate to present the statement of even the greatest intellectual or Imam in opposition to the Qur’an and Hadith,
Because the Messenger is infallible (ma‘soom) and no other human is infallible.
In the upcoming narration, there is detail that he divided modesty (haya) into two types and said that sometimes it is dignity and calmness, and sometimes modesty is a person’s weakness and cowardice,
At this, the Companion (radi Allahu anhu)
became angry that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is declaring modesty to be entirely good, and this person is considering some types of modesty as weakness and cowardice; that is why he became angry with him, as will be detailed in the next hadith.

Hadith Commentary: Although Bashir bin Ka'b supported the hadith with a statement from the book of the sages, Imran did not approve of this either, because after hearing a hadith or a verse, there is no need to listen to the words of others. When the sun has risen, what need is there for a torch or a lamp?
Those people should take admonition from this hadith who oppose a hadith with the statement of an Imam or a mujtahid.
Shah Waliullah rahimahullah has, with much regret, said about such blind followers: "Fama yakunu jawabuhum yawma yaqoomu an-naasu li-Rabbil-'alameen"—On the Day of Resurrection, when such people will stand in the presence of Allah and will be questioned: 'After hearing the statement of My Messenger, why did you choose the statement of such-and-such Imam?'—what answer will such people give to Allah the Exalted? Shaykh Abdul Sattar al-Hammad
Hadith Commentary:
(1)
Whoever is characterized by the attribute of modesty (haya) and feels modest before people—thinking, "If people see me indulging in immorality and wickedness, what will they say?"—such a person will feel even greater modesty before Allah, the Exalted. Whoever feels modest before Allah, then this modesty will prevent him from neglecting rights and obligations and from committing sins, because modesty (haya) forbids indecency and evil deeds and encourages virtue, just as faith (iman) prevents the people of faith from immorality and keeps them away from sins. Therefore, in these matters, modesty is equivalent to faith, even though modesty is a natural disposition and faith is an acquired act of the believer. Thus, the statement of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is:
"Modesty is a part of faith."
(Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Iman, Hadith: 24)
(2)
Imran ibn Husayn radi Allahu anhu became displeased because, after hearing the hadith, there was no need to listen to anyone else's words, whereas Bashir ibn Ka'b, after hearing the hadith, began to mention the wisdom of the sages.
