Benefits and Issues:
➊ This hadith shows that if there is a large crowd and it seems difficult or impossible to kiss the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad), then one may touch it with a stick and kiss the stick.
➋ It is narrated in Musnad Ahmad that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said to Umar radi Allahu anhu: “You are a strong and powerful man. It is not difficult for you to reach the Black Stone, but in the pushing and shoving, the weak are harmed and troubled. Therefore, if you find a free moment, then touch it with your hand; otherwise, stand in front of the Black Stone and just say «لا اله الاالله والله اكبر».” [مسند احمد : 1 28]
➌ This hadith indicates that it is not permissible to harm or trouble others while performing the rites of Hajj.
➍ If the touching (istilam) of the Black Stone is done only by gesture of the hand, then the hand should not be kissed, because the hand or stick, etc., are kissed only when they have actually touched the Black Stone.

Narrator of the Hadith: Abu al-Tufayl radi Allahu anhu, whose name was Amir ibn Wathilah al-Kinani. He lived during the last eight years of the blessed life of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. He passed away in Makkah Mukarramah in the year 100 Hijri. According to another opinion, he died in 102 Hijri, and yet another opinion states his death was in 110 Hijri. Among all the Companions radi Allahu anhum living on the earth, he was the last to pass away—this fortunate Companion.
