'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin al-As reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: How would you be, O people when Persia and Rome would be conquered for you? 'Abd -al-Rahman bin Auf said: We would say as Allah has commanded us and we would express our gratitude to Allah. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: Nothing else besides it? You would (in fact) vie with one another, then you would feel jealous, then your relations would be estranged and then you will bear enmity against one another, or something to the same effect. Then you would go to the poor emigrants and would make some the masters of the others.

Benefits and Issues: The abundance of wealth and property, and the desire and longing for it, result in consequences in the exact order that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) had indicated, and these consequences are indeed manifesting. May Allah protect us.

´It was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr bin ‘As that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` “When the treasures of Persia and Rome are opened for you, what kind of people will you be?” ‘Abdur-Rahman bin ‘Awf said: “We will say what Allah has commanded us to say.” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Or something other than that. You will compete with one another, then you will envy one another, then you will turn your backs on one another, then you will hate one another, or something like that. Then you will go to the poor among the Muhajirun and appoint some of them as leaders of others.”

Benefits and Issues: ➊ By "envy" here is meant competition for worldly wealth. To desire that a certain blessing should come to me and not to another is unlawful envy. This type of envy leads to jealousy, which is blameworthy. Permissible envy means to wish that I also receive a blessing similar to what someone else has received. This type of envy is permissible.
➋ As a result of jealousy, relationships become strained and can even reach the point of enmity. All such habits are reprehensible.
➌ The meaning of the last sentence is that wealthy individuals will oppress and intimidate those who are less fortunate. These qualities were not present among the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum). Such traits appeared among those who came later, in whom these characteristics were found.
