Mutarrif reported on the authority of his father: I came to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) as he was reciting: "Abundance diverts you" (cii. 1). He said: The son of Adam ؑclaims: My wealth, my wealth. And he (the Holy Prophet) said: O son of Adam. is there anything as your belonging except that which you consumed, which you utilised, or which you wore and then it was worn out or you gave as charity and sent it forward?

Explanation & Benefits
Sahih Muslim Sharh Nawawi
Explanation:
And that which you have set aside is not your wealth, rather it belongs to your heirs, or if there are no heirs, then to distant relatives. It is regrettable that a person earns wealth, works so hard, endures so much hardship, and yet others enjoy its pleasures. It is necessary that you eat well, drink, dress, and spend in the way of Allah, and feed your friends and loved ones. Even after this, whatever remains—if the heirs take it, then so be it.

Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: From this hadith, it is understood that the wealth which truly and actually benefits a person is only that which he has given in charity (sadaqah) in the way of Allah, and the wealth that is spent on worldly needs such as food, drink, clothing, or other similar necessities of this world—its benefit is limited and temporary. It will end here and will not be of use in the eternal and everlasting life.
