Hadith 2936

This hadith is listed as number 7372 in Maktaba Shamila

Abu Hurairah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: May I not inform you about the Dajjal what no Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) narrated to his people? He would be blind and he would bring along with him an Image of Paradise and Hell-Fire and what he would call as Paradise that would be Hell-Fire and I warn you as Noah warned his people.

Hadith Commentary:
Allah, the Exalted, will grant the Dajjal (Antichrist) the power to perform certain acts in order to test His servants, then afterwards He will manifest his incapacity. Such a situation will itself make clear that he is not God.
The mention of Nuh (alayhis salam) has come in the hadiths; this is the relevance to the chapter.

Hadith Commentary:

The word "Dajjal" is derived from "dajal," which means to present a falsehood in an attractive manner.
He is called Dajjal because he will be a great deceiver, a liar, and a fraudster.
In these hadiths, the reason for mentioning the particularity of Prophet Nuh (alayhis salam) is that he was the first prophet who warned his people about the Dajjal.
Before him, all the prophets used to nurture their people just as a father nurtures his children.

Many characteristics of the Dajjal have been mentioned in other hadiths, but there is no contradiction among them because one of the Dajjal’s eyes will be destroyed and the other will be defective; in every case, he can be called one-eyed (blind in one eye), whereas Allah, the Lord of Might and Majesty, is not like that.

Allah Ta’ala will grant the Dajjal the power to perform certain acts in order to test His servants, and then later will manifest his helplessness.
Such a situation will itself make clear that he is not the Lord.
Since these hadiths mention Prophet Nuh (alayhis salam), this much relevance to the chapter heading is sufficient.
And Allah knows best.

Hadith Commentary: In another narration, it is stated: Whoever among you encounters his time should enter his fire. It will be extremely sweet, cool, and excellent water.

The meaning is that Dajjal will be a trickster and a magician. He will show people water as fire and fire as water, or Allah Ta’ala, in order to humiliate him, will reverse the matter: for those to whom he gives water, it will become fire, and for those Muslims whom he considers opponents and throws into the fire, for them the fire will become water.

Those who have objected that fire and water are two different realities—how can they be transformed into each other—are, in fact, utterly foolish. This transformation is happening day and night in the world. The composition and decomposition of elements is continuously ongoing.

Some have said that the meaning is: whoever obeys Dajjal, he will give him cool water, but in reality, this cool water is fire, meaning that in the Hereafter he will be among the people of Hell. And the one whom he considers an opponent and throws into the fire, for him this fire will be cool water, meaning that on the Day of Judgment he will be among the people of Paradise. He will receive the cool water of Paradise.

Hadith Commentary:

In another narration, there is further clarification that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“I know well what will happen with the Dajjal. With him will be flowing rivers. One will appear to be white water to the onlookers, and the other will appear as blazing fire. Then whoever finds the opportunity should enter the river which appears to be fire to him. He should close his eyes, lower his head, and drink from it; it will be cool water.” (Sahih Muslim, Al-Fitan, Hadith: 7367(2934))
The meaning is that Dajjal will be a trickster and a magician, who will mislead people by making water appear as fire and fire as water.

It is also possible that, in order to humiliate him, Allah ta’ala will reverse his trickery: the water he gives to people will become fire for them, and the fire into which he throws Muslims, considering them his opponents, will become water for them.
And Allah knows best.

Relevance Between the Chapter Heading and the Hadith
The Chapter of Sahih Bukhari: «
Relevance Between the Chapter Heading and the Hadith
The connection between the translation of the chapter heading and the hadith appears difficult, indeed extremely difficult. In fact, several commentators have not mentioned any kind of reconciliation regarding the above-mentioned hadith of Sayyiduna Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman radi Allahu anhu.

To the extent that Allamah ‘Ayni has clearly stated:
«هذا الحديث مشتمل على ثلاثة احاديث : الاول حديث الدجال . والثاني و الثالث : فى رجلين كل واحد فى رجل، والمطابقة للترجمة فى الثاني والثالث .» [عمده القاري 65/16]
“This hadith consists of three narrations: the first is about the Dajjal, the second and third are about two men, each of whom is a man (whose relation is with Bani Isra’il). Therefore, the correspondence with the translation of the chapter is with the second and third hadiths (i.e., there is no correspondence with the first hadith).”

Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah has stated in Fath al-Bari:
«الحديث ياتي الكلام عليه مستوفي فى كتاب الفتن، والغرض منه هنا ايراد ما يليه و هو قصة الرجل الذى كايبايع الناس وقصة الرجل الذى اوصي بنيه ان يحرقوه .» [فتح الباري 413/7]
From the statement of Hafiz Sahib, it appears that the hadith about the Dajjal is related to the other two hadiths, because the narrators of the remaining two are Sayyiduna Hudhayfah radi Allahu anhu himself, but in my opinion, this is not sufficient for establishing relevance.

Imam Bukhari rahimahullah, after the hadith about the Dajjal, has narrated two hadiths from Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman, and in various places in Sahih Bukhari, he has narrated these three hadiths with different chains of transmission.

The hadith about the Dajjal is in 7130...
The second hadith is in 2077...
The third hadith is in 9480...
He has mentioned them.

Allamah ‘Abd al-Haqq al-Hashimi rahimahullah states:
Under the chapter heading, three hadiths have been mentioned. Imam Bukhari rahimahullah narrates the first hadith about the Dajjal,
the second hadith about buying and selling,
the third hadith about the grave-robber (kafan-chor),
and further writes:
«والمطابقة للترجمة فى الثاني و الثالث.» [لب اللباب 69/3]
“The correspondence with the translation of the chapter is in the second and third hadiths (because in these hadiths, a man from Bani Isra’il is mentioned).”

But as for the first hadith, in which the Dajjal is mentioned, what correspondence could there be in it? And it is a fact that many commentators have not discussed the correspondence of this hadith...

This humble servant says that the relevance of the hadith about the Dajjal to the translation of the chapter is present in a very profound manner, in that the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
«ما من نبي الا وقد انذر امته الاعور الكذاب الا انه اعور وان ربكم ليس باعور مكتوب بين عينيه ك- ف. ر.» [صحيح مسلم باب الرجال 4933]
“There has not been any prophet except that he warned his nation about the Dajjal, and your Lord is not one-eyed. Written between his (the Dajjal’s) two eyes is ‘Kaf, Fa, Ra’ (Kafir).”

Consider this hadith from Sahih Muslim, which Imam Bukhari rahimahullah himself has also mentioned (Kitab al-Fitan, hadith number 7131). In the aforementioned hadith, all the prophets are mentioned as having warned their nations about the tribulation of the Dajjal. Therefore, Musa alayhis salam was also a law-bearing prophet, so how could it be that he did not warn his nation about this tribulation? Thus, it is established from the hadith that the nation of Musa alayhis salam is Bani Isra’il, so when Bani Isra’il is established, then by priority, the presence of Musa alayhis salam is also established, and his warning his nation about the Dajjal is also established. Therefore, from here, an indication of the relevance between the translation of the chapter and the hadith is found.

(All praise is due to Allah; this success is only from Allah.)

Hadith Commentary:
The narration from Hudhayfah radi Allahu anhu consists of three hadiths.
This first hadith pertains to the Dajjal (Antichrist); the remaining two hadiths will describe the circumstances of two men from the Children of Israel.
According to this hadith, Allah ta'ala will grant the greater Dajjal certain extraordinary (khariq al-'adat) feats.
Through such acts of deception, the servants will be tested.
Ultimately, Allah ta'ala will make manifest the helplessness and incapacity of this accursed one.
He will publicly humiliate and disgrace him, and 'Isa alayhis salam will kill him.
