Hadith 2904

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سُهَيْلٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَيْسَتِ السَّنَةُ بِأَنْ لَا تُمْطَرُوا ، وَلَكِنْ السَّنَةُ أَنْ تُمْطَرُوا ، وَتُمْطَرُوا وَلَا تُنْبِتُ الْأَرْضُ شَيْئًا " .
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: The famine would not break out because of drought, but there would be famine despite heavy rainfall as nothing would grow from the earth.

Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: Generally, in times of drought, the situation is that rain does not fall and the land is not irrigated; therefore, it does not produce anything. However, near the Day of Judgment, the form of famine will be such that rain will fall abundantly, due to which the land will not be cultivable, and whatever there is will rot and decay because of the excessive rain.
