باب الأَمْرِ بِحُسْنِ الظَّنِّ بِاللَّهِ تَعَالَى عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ:Chapter: The Command To Think Positively Of Allah At The Time Of Death
Hadith 2878
وحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " يُبْعَثُ كُلُّ عَبْدٍ عَلَى مَا مَاتَ عَلَيْهِ " ،
Jabir reported: I heard Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) as saying. Every servant would be raised (in the same very state) in which he dies.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ نَافِعٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ ، وَقَالَ : عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَلَمْ يَقُلْ سَمِعْتُ .
This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of A'mash but with a slight variation of wording.

Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: A person will be resurrected upon the belief (‘aqidah) and action upon which he dies, and a person dies upon the belief and action upon which he remained steadfast throughout his life. Therefore, a person should be concerned about the correctness and soundness of his belief and actions, because one does not know when the lamp of life may be extinguished. And if one becomes aware of the approach of death beforehand, then he should place his hope in Allah for forgiveness and pardon.
