باب الدُّعَاءِ عِنْدَ النَّوْمِChapter: ….
Hadith 2713
حَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ سُهَيْلٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ أَبُو صَالِحٍ يَأْمُرُنَا إِذَا أَرَادَ أَحَدُنَا أَنْ يَنَامَ أَنْ يَضْطَجِعَ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الْأَيْمَنِ ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ : " اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَرَبَّ الْأَرْضِ ، وَرَبَّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ ، رَبَّنَا وَرَبَّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ ، فَالِقَ الْحَبِّ وَالنَّوَى وَمُنْزِلَ التَّوْرَاةِ وَالْإِنْجِيلِ وَالْفُرْقَانِ ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ أَنْتَ آخِذٌ بِنَاصِيَتِهِ ، اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْأَوَّلُ فَلَيْسَ قَبْلَكَ شَيْءٌ ، وَأَنْتَ الْآخِرُ فَلَيْسَ بَعْدَكَ شَيْءٌ ، وَأَنْتَ الظَّاهِرُ فَلَيْسَ فَوْقَكَ شَيْءٌ ، وَأَنْتَ الْبَاطِنُ فَلَيْسَ دُونَكَ شَيْءٌ ، اقْضِ عَنَّا الدَّيْنَ وَأَغْنِنَا مِنَ الْفَقْرِ " وَكَانَ يَرْوِي ذَلِكَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ،
Suhail reported that Abu Salih used to command us (in these words): When any one of you intends to go to sleep, he should lie on the bed on his right side and then say: "O Allah. the Lord of the Heavens and the Lord of the Earth and Lord of the Magnificent Throne, our Lord, and the Lord of everything, the Splitter of the grain of corn and the datestone (or fruit kernal), the Revealer of Torah and Injil (Bible) and Criterion (the Holy Qur'an), I seek refuge in Thee from the evil of everything Thou art to sieze by the forelock (Thou hast perfect control over it). O Allah, Thou art the First, there is naught before Thee, and Thou art the Last and there is naught after Thee, and Thou art Evident and there is nothing above Thee, and Thou art Innermost and there is nothing beyond Thee. Remove the burden of debt from us and relieve us from want." وحَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بْنُ بَيَانٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ يَعْنِي الطَّحَّانَ ، عَنْ سُهَيْلٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَأْمُرُنَا إِذَا أَخَذْنَا مَضْجَعَنَا أَنْ نَقُولَ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ جَرِيرٍ ، وَقَالَ : مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ دَابَّةٍ أَنْتَ آخِذٌ بِنَاصِيَتِهَا ،
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to command us that as we go to our beds, we should utter the words (as mentioned above) and he also said (these words): "From the evil of every animal, Thou hast hold upon its forelock (Thou hast full control over it)."

وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : أَتَتْ فَاطِمَةُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَسْأَلُهُ خَادِمًا ، فَقَالَ لَهَا قُولِي : اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ السَّمَاوَاتِ السَّبْعِ ، بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ سُهَيْلٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ .
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported that Fatima (the daughter of the Holy Prophet) came to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) and asked for a servant. He said to her: Say: "O Allah, the Lord of the seven heavens"; the rest of the hadith is the same.

Benefits and Issues:
In this hadith as well, it is narrated to lie down on the right side for sleep, and this was also the habitual practice of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), because in this position, the heart, which is on the left side, remains suspended, and for remembrance (dhikr), supplication (du'a), and turning one's attention to Allah while lying down, this posture is more suitable.
And according to Allamah Ibn al-Jawzi, in the view of physicians, this is also appropriate for the body, because by lying on the right side, the food descends, and then by lying on the left side afterwards, it is digested. And this supplication is especially suitable for those who are in debt and afflicted with financial difficulties; the servant should recite this supplication and hope from his Generous Lord that He will create a means for the expansion of sustenance.
Benefits and Issues:

You are the One Who revealed the Torah,
the Gospel, and the Qur’an,
the One Who splits the earth and brings forth the grain and the sprout,
I seek refuge in You from the evil of everything,
whose forelock is in Your hand,
You are the First (there is nothing before You),
You are the Last (there is nothing after You),
You are the Most High (i.e., above; there is nothing above You),
You are the Most Hidden (nothing is hidden from You),
but nothing is hidden from You,
O Allah! remove my debt from me,
and enrich me, freeing me from poverty.

In these blessed words, along with the expression of servitude for a Muslim, there is also an expression of the renewal of faith in the oneness of divinity (tawhid al-uluhiyyah), the oneness of lordship (tawhid al-rububiyyah), the oneness of names and attributes (tawhid al-asma wa al-sifat), and the system of messengership.

And especially, there is the teaching to seek refuge from debt and poverty, because due to these, a person's peace and tranquility are destroyed, and honor is put at stake. In addition, many other calamities of religion and worldly life also arise.

➊ The remembrance of Allah is better than worldly wealth.
➋ Allah, the Exalted, is the First and the Last. Time affects the creation, not the Creator; for Him, all times are equal.
➌ Allah, the Exalted, is the Most High and Dominant over all, and His power encompasses every particle of creation, and in terms of knowledge and power, He is the closest of all.
➌ One should supplicate to Allah by means of His attributes.
➍ Poverty and wealth are in the hands of Allah; therefore, to seek deliverance from debt and poverty, one should seek Allah’s help through the prescribed (masnun) supplication.

One should mention the attributes of Allah when making supplication (du'a).

Allah Most High fulfills physical needs as well.
And in order to provide material sustenance to His servants, He splits the grain and the pit, causing crops and trees to grow.
And He also fulfills spiritual needs.
For this purpose, He continued the chain of prophethood and revealed heavenly books.

In this supplication, the attribute of Allah as the Provider (Razzaqiyyah) is invoked as a means for the repayment of debt.
➍
Time and space are creations of Allah.
Therefore, He encompasses all of them.
With respect to time, He is the First (al-Awwal) and the Last (al-Akhir).
And with respect to space, He is above all creation (az-Zahir).
And with respect to His power and knowledge, He is the closest (al-Batin).
➎
If, along with poverty, there is attention towards Allah and absorption in worship, then this is praiseworthy.
So that the heart does not become preoccupied with wealth and riches and become heedless of Allah.
But if poverty and deprivation reach such a level
that even basic needs are not fulfilled,
and a person is forced to stretch out his hand before others just to fill his stomach,
or becomes indebted while there is no hope of repaying the debt, then such poverty is blameworthy and one should seek Allah’s protection from it.
