Hadith 2667
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو قُدَامَةَ الْحَارِثُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ ، عَنْ جُنْدَبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْبَجَلِيِّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اقْرَءُوا الْقُرْآنَ مَا ائْتَلَفَتْ عَلَيْهِ قُلُوبُكُمْ فَإِذَا اخْتَلَفْتُمْ فِيهِ فَقُومُوا " .
Jundub bin 'Abdullah al-Bajali reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Recite the Qur'an as long as your hearts agree to do so, and when you feel variance between them (between your hearts and tongues), then get up (and leave its recital for the time being).

حَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عِمْرَانَ الْجَوْنِيُّ ، عَنْ جُنْدَبٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " اقْرَءُوا الْقُرْآنَ مَا ائْتَلَفَتْ عَلَيْهِ قُلُوبُكُمْ ، فَإِذَا اخْتَلَفْتُمْ فَقُومُوا " .
Jundub (i. e. Ibn 'Abdullah) reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: Recite the Qur'an as long as your hearts agree to do so and when you find variance between them, then stand up.

حَدَّثَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ صَخْرٍ الدَّارِمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَبَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبَانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عِمْرَانَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ لَنَا جُنْدَبٌ وَنَحْنُ غِلْمَانٌ بِالْكُوفَةِ ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : اقْرَءُوا الْقُرْآنَ ، بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِهِمَا .
Abu Imran reported that Jundub told us as we were young boys living in Kilfa, that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had said: Recite the Qur'an. The rest of the hadith is the same.

Benefits and Issues:
If the addressee of this hadith is every individual person, then the meaning will be: As long as there is harmony and consistency between your heart and tongue, and you possess composure and tranquility, continue reciting the Noble Qur’an. But when the heart and tongue are no longer in accord, the heart does not wish to recite, incorrect words begin to be uttered by the tongue, and the temperament becomes weary, then stop the recitation. And if the addressees are different individuals who are engaged in mutual discussion, then the meaning will be: When differences arise regarding the meanings and implications of the Noble Qur’an, doubts and suspicions begin to increase, and there is a fear of mutual conflict and discord, and groupings or factions begin to form, then end the discussion. Or if a dispute arises regarding the recitation, then refrain from it and disperse.
