Abu Sa'id Khudri and Abu Hurairah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, said: Glory is His lower garment and Majesty is His cloak and (Allah says,) He who contends with Me in regard to them I shall torment him.

Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: From this hadith, it is understood that arrogance, considering oneself great and exalted, is tantamount to claiming a share in Allah’s attribute of greatness and majesty. However, Allah has no partner or associate, and whoever tries to become His partner will be subjected to punishment. For if anyone possesses any excellence or virtue, it is granted by Allah, which should lead to humility, modesty, and humbleness, not to competing with the One who has bestowed it.
