Hadith Commentary:
Vocabulary of the Hadith:
Ragima anfuhu:
May his nose be rubbed in dust,
meaning he is humiliated, disgraced, and dishonored.
Benefits and Issues:
From this hadith, it is understood that serving one’s parents,
showing them good conduct, and bringing them comfort to earn their supplication is a special means of attaining Paradise.
Serving parents and treating them well is required at every age,
but in old age, when they become feeble, they are in even greater need of service and comfort.
Because in this state, they are often perceived as a burden,
since they have reached an age of receiving rather than giving,
therefore, in this very condition,
serving them and bringing them comfort and happiness
is a deed beloved and accepted by Allah Ta’ala,
which is an easy step towards entering Paradise.
Thus, the servant of Allah who is given the opportunity to serve his parents—both or even one of them—in their old age and thereby enter Paradise,
but fails to enter Paradise by serving them,
without doubt, he is truly unfortunate and deprived.
For this reason, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said regarding such people:
they are unsuccessful,
humiliated, disgraced, and dishonored.
