Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Abdul Aziz Alvi
Hadith Commentary:
Vocabulary of the Hadith:
Fi’am:
Group,
Party,
This is derived from faam,
(piece,
portion).
Benefits and Issues:
It is established from this hadith that whoever saw the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam)
is a Companion (Sahabi).
The word “seeing” is used in a general and predominant sense;
this does not mean that a blind Companion is not included,
because if he had sight, he too would have seen him.
Therefore, the intended meaning is:
whoever was granted the good fortune of spending some time with the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) in the state of Islam and died upon Islam,
he is a Companion (Sahabi).
The companionship is not restricted to a specific duration of time;
even a brief period of companionship becomes a source of blessing.
