باب مِنْ فَضَائِلِ نِسَاءِ قُرَيْشٍ:Chapter: The Virtues Of The Women Of The Quraish
Hadith 2527
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، عَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ . ح وَعَنْ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " خَيْرُ نِسَاءٍ رَكِبْنَ الْإِبِلَ " ، قَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا : صَالِحُ نِسَاءِ قُرَيْشٍ ، وقَالَ الْآخَرُ : نِسَاءُ قُرَيْشٍ أَحْنَاهُ عَلَى يَتِيمٍ فِي صِغَرِهِ وَأَرْعَاهُ عَلَى زَوْجٍ فِي ذَاتِ يَدِهِ .
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Good amongst the women are those who ride camels. One of them said: They are pious women of the Quraish, and the other one said: The women of the Quraish are kind to the orphans in their childhood and look after the wealth of their spouses.

حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، عَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ يَبْلُغُ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَابْنُ طَاوُسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، يَبْلُغُ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، بِمِثْلِهِ ، غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : أَرْعَاهُ عَلَى وَلَدٍ فِي صِغَرِهِ وَلَمْ يَقُلْ يَتِيمٍ .
This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Abu Hurairah (RA) with a slight variation of wording and there is no word" orphan".

حَدَّثَنِي حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَي ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " نِسَاءُ قُرَيْشٍ خَيْرُ نِسَاءٍ رَكِبْنَ الْإِبِلَ ، أَحْنَاهُ عَلَى طِفْلٍ وَأَرْعَاهُ عَلَى زَوْجٍ فِي ذَاتِ يَدِهِ " ، قَالَ : يَقُولُ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ : عَلَى إِثْرِ ذَلِكَ ، وَلَمْ تَرْكَبْ مَرْيَمُ بِنْتُ عِمْرَانَ بَعِيرًا قَطُّ .
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported: I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: The women of the Quraish are good amongst the womenfolk. They ride camels and show affection to their children and zealously guard the wealth of their husbands. Abu Hurairah (RA) said at the end of this narration that Mary, the daughter of Imran, never rode the camel.

حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ ، وَعَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، قَالَ عَبْدٌ : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وقَالَ ابْنُ رَافِعٍ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ ابْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَطَبَ أُمَّ هَانِئٍ بِنْتَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ، فَقَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي قَدْ كَبِرْتُ وَلِي عِيَالٌ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : خَيْرُ نِسَاءٍ رَكِبْنَ ، ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ يُونُسَ ، غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : أَحْنَاهُ عَلَى وَلَدٍ فِي صِغَرِهِ .
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) gave a proposal of marriage to Umm Hani, the daughter of Abu Talib, whereupon she said: Allah's Messenger, I am of an advanced age with a (large) family. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: The best women are those who ride (the camels) ; the rest of the hadith is the same but with this difference that, instead of the word Ar'a the word Ahna has been used (and the complete sentence is like this): That they treat children in their childhood with affection.

حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ ، وَعَبْدُ بْنُ حميد ، قَالَ ابْنُ رَافِعٍ : حَدَّثَنَا ، وقَالَ عَبْدٌ : أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ . ح ، وحَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ هَمَّامِ بْنِ مُنَبِّهٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " خَيْرُ نِسَاءٍ رَكِبْنَ الْإِبِلَ صَالِحُ نِسَاءِ قُرَيْشٍ ، أَحْنَاهُ عَلَى وَلَدٍ فِي صِغَرِهِ ، وَأَرْعَاهُ عَلَى زَوْجٍ فِي ذَاتِ يَدِهِ " .
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: The best women who ride the camels are the pious women of the Quraish; they treat with affection children in their childhood and keep a strict watch on the wealth of their spouses.

حَدَّثَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ الْأَوْدِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مَخْلَدٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي سُلَيْمَانُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ بِلَالٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي سُهَيْلٌ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ مَعْمَرٍ ، هَذَا سَوَاءً .
This hadith has been reported on the authority of Abu Hurairah (RA) with the same chain of transmitters.

Vocabulary of the Hadith:
Khayru nisa’i rakibna al-ibil:
The best among the women who ride camels,
that is, the best among the Arab women,
because only Arab women used to ride camels,
as if,
in their era, the most virtuous and capable women were those of Quraysh,
therefore, there is no need to exclude Maryam alayha as-salam,
she was not from that era, and the reason for this virtue and excellence is due to two qualities:
(1)
Ahnāhu ‘alā yatīm,
who show extreme compassion to a child in his childhood,
so much so that if they become widows, for the sake of their children,
they refrain from remarrying,
so that they can raise and nurture them with full devotion.
(2)
Ar‘āhā ‘alā zawj fī dhāti yadih,
they take great care of their husband’s possessions, that is, his wealth and property,
they do not waste it through extravagance or squandering,
it is evident,
when they safeguard his wealth and property, then all the more so will they protect his honor and dignity, which is an invaluable thing.
