Shaykh Maulana Abdul Aziz Alvi
Hadith Commentary:
Vocabulary of the Hadith:
(1)
Rashq bil-nabl:
Archery,
shooting arrows,
rashq:
a shower of arrows.
In that era, poetry
was an extremely effective means,
people were greatly influenced by it, and the polytheists of Makkah also used this weapon,
therefore, in response, the same weapon was employed.
Just as nowadays the disbelievers use print and electronic media against Islam and Muslims,
but unfortunately, Muslims are heedless of counterattacking with this weapon,
even though defending oneself is an obligation upon the Ummah.
(2)
Al-dharib bidhunabih:
A lion, in a state of rage and anger, strikes its tail on both sides of its body, so Hassan (radi Allahu anhu),
likening himself to a lion,
compared his tongue to a tail,
thus, adla‘a lisanahu:
he extended his tongue from his mouth and moved it, and said,
la’afriyanahum bilisani:
I will tear apart their honor and dignity with my tongue.
(3)
Fari al-adim:
Just as leather is skinned and torn apart with a knife.
(4)
Barr:
Obedient,
one who does good.
If instead of taqi (pious), it is hanif, then the meaning will be:
upright,
one who turns away from all else and becomes devoted to Allah.
(5)
Shimatuhu:
His habit and character,
wiqa’:
shield,
protector,
one who saves.
(6)
Binyati:
My body and soul,
if banayati, then my beloved daughter,
yubariyun:
they compete.
(7)
Al-a‘innah:
Plural of ‘inan,
reins,
they are equal to reins in strength and adversity,
or, like reins, they turn in obedience to the rider.
(8)
Mus‘idat:
They are coming facing you.
(9)
Al-asl:
Spears,
al-zama’:
thirsty for the enemy’s blood,
or thin due to thirst.
(10)
Mutamattirat:
Those who run swiftly,
those who outpace one another.
(11)
Taltamuhunna bil-khumur:
Due to the nobility and honor of the horses and the love and affection for them, Muslim women
would wipe the dust from their faces with their veils,
or, due to the horses running swiftly in pursuit of the enemy, the enemy’s women, in their defense, would strike their faces with their veils.
(12)
In ‘aradtum ‘anna a‘tamirna:
If you move aside from us,
and do not prevent us from performing ‘umrah at the House of Allah, then we will perform ‘umrah and achieve our objective,
from this it is known
that these verses were composed on the occasion of ‘Umrat al-Hudaybiyyah,
therefore, in the next verse it is said,
if you prevent us from ‘umrah,
then wait for the battle of that day,
in which Allah, the Exalted, will grant victory to the Muslims, and according to the prophecy of Hassan (radi Allahu anhu), Makkah was conquered in 8 AH, and on that day the women of Makkah were striking the faces of the horses with their veils to turn them away,

Striking,

confrontation.
(14)
Yusirtu jundan:

‘Aradtuhu al-liqa’:
Whose very aim and objective is to fight the enemy.
(16)
Min Ma‘add:
By Ma‘add is meant Quraysh,
because they are the descendants of Ma‘add ibn Adnan.
(17)
Faman yahju minkum:
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is so exalted in rank that your satire and condemnation cannot harm him in the least, nor will your praise, eulogy, or support benefit him in any way,
because you are of no account,
kafa’:
equal,
counterpart,
peer.
