Shaykh Maulana Abdul Aziz Alvi
Hadith Commentary:
Vocabulary of the Hadith:
(1)
"Do not be the first to enter":
To go to the marketplace first,
or to be the last to leave,
is a sign that this person has a fondness and eagerness for going to the market and loves the marketplace,
whereas the marketplace is not a place of affection,
it is a place of necessity,
where one should stay only as long as necessary.
(2)
"Battlefield of Satan":
It is the battlefield of Satan,
here a battle takes place between Satan and his minions and the shopkeepers and customers present in the marketplace,
he, along with his followers, tries to make people do things against the religion and the Shari‘ah, and by following him, people become involved in unlawful matters,
that is why "there he plants his flag,"
he plants his flags in the marketplace and throws his helpers and supporters into the market,
so that they may incite people to wrong actions and create breaches in their livelihood and social affairs.
(3)
"Yukhbiru khabarana":
You (the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) mentioned in the sermon the incident that occurred at home and informed about the coming of Jibril,
since Jibril alayhis salam would usually come in the form of Dihyah Kalbi radi Allahu anhu,
who was extremely handsome and beautiful,
therefore Umm Salamah radi Allahu anha thought he was Dihyah Kalbi radi Allahu anhu,
so saying "yukhbiru khabarana" or "yukhbiru khabar Jibril,"
both are correct, so to declare this as a scribal error or alteration in the hadith of Sahih Muslim
is not correct.
As Allamah Taqi hafizahullah has quoted the statement of Qadi ‘Iyad regarding it being a scribal error.
