'A'isha reported: Never did I feel jealous of any woman as I was jealous of Khadija. She had died three years before he (the Holy Prophet) married me. I often heard him praise her, and his lord, the Exalted and Glorious, had commanded him to give her the glad tidings of a palace of jewels in Paradise: and whenever he slaughtered a sheep he presented (its meat) to her female companions.

'A'isha reported: Never did I feel jealous of the wives of Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) but in case of Khadija, although I did no, (have the privilege to) see her. She further added that whenever Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) slaughtered a sheep, he said: Send it to the companions of Khadija (RA) I annoyed him one day and said: (It is) Khadija (RA) only who always prevails upon your mind. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: Her love had been nurtured in my heart by Allah Himself.

'A'isha reported: Never did I feel jealous of any wife amongst the wives of Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) as I feel in case of Khadija (RA) (though I had never seen her), for he praised her very often.

Hadith Commentary:Benefits and Issues: In a woman, there is naturally and instinctively a sense of jealousy and protectiveness regarding her co-wife, and if this remains within natural limits, there is no objection to it. However, if as a result of this, envy, malice, and hatred arise and the boundaries set by the Shari‘ah are violated, then it becomes blameworthy. The Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) used to remember Khadijah (radi Allahu anha) because of her children and her services, and due to his love and affection for her, he would also remember her friends and her sister. For this reason, Aishah (radi Allahu anha) would feel aggrieved that despite being a beautiful, intelligent, and perceptive young woman like herself, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) still remembered Khadijah (radi Allahu anha) and continued to have feelings of love and affection for her, which, in her view, should have ended or at least weakened in her own presence.

Narrated `Aisha: I did not feel jealous of any of the wives of the Prophet as much as I did of Khadija though I did not see her, but the Prophet used to mention her very often, and when ever he slaughtered a sheep, he would cut its parts and send them to the women friends of Khadija. When I sometimes said to him, "(You treat Khadija in such a way) as if there is no woman on earth except Khadija," he would say, "Khadija was such-and-such, and from her I had children."

Hadith Commentary: From this it is understood that in the sight of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), the status of Umm al-Mu’minin, Lady Khadijah (radi Allahu anha), was extremely high. In reality, she was the foremost benefactress of Islam and the Prophet of Islam (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). The recompense for her favors can only be given to her by Allah. Radi Allahu anha wa ardaha. (Ameen)

Hadith Commentary: ➊ The meaning of "ghayrah" (protective jealousy) here is that a wife suspects that her husband loves another of his wives more than her. ➋ Aishah (radi Allahu anha) used to feel ghayrah regarding Khadijah (radi Allahu anha) because the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would frequently remember her. In the hadith, the repetition of "wa kanat, wa kanat" does not literally indicate duality; rather, with each repetition, the qualities and virtues of Khadijah (radi Allahu anha) are intended—meaning she was virtuous, intelligent, devoted in service, and dutiful, etc. Furthermore, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would continue to praise her and supplicate to Allah for her forgiveness. These were the reasons why Sayyidah Aishah (radi Allahu anha) used to feel ghayrah. ➌ Upon being asked by some, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) replied that Khadijah (radi Allahu anha) believed in me when people disbelieved in me. She affirmed my truthfulness when people denied me. She supported me with her wealth when people deprived me, and Allah, the Exalted, granted me children through her while I did not have children from any other wife. It should be noted that Zaynab (radi Allahu anha), Ruqayyah (radi Allahu anha), Umm Kulthum (radi Allahu anha), Fatimah (radi Allahu anha), Abdullah (radi Allahu anhu), and Qasim (radi Allahu anhu) were all from the pure womb of Khadijah (radi Allahu anha); only your beloved son Ibrahim (radi Allahu anhu) was born from your slave woman Maria al-Qibtiyyah (radi Allahu anha). Khadijah (radi Allahu anha) is the only woman that, when she believed, there was no house of Islam on the entire earth except hers. It is mentioned in the hadith: “She will be given a house of pearls in Paradise.” This too is from the chapter of correspondence (bab al-mushakalah), meaning the recompense for an action is of the same kind as the action itself, even if it is of a much higher and nobler degree. In any case, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) held the first lady (Khadijah radi Allahu anha) in great esteem; this is why he did not marry any other woman during her lifetime.
