باب فَضْلِ النَّظَرِ إِلَيْهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَتَمَنِّيهِ:Chapter: The Virtue Of Looking At Him And Longing To See Him
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ هَمَّامِ بْنِ مُنَبِّهٍ ، قَالَ : هَذَا مَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَذَكَرَ أَحَادِيثَ مِنْهَا ، وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ فِي يَدِهِ ، لَيَأْتِيَنَّ عَلَى أَحَدِكُمْ يَوْمٌ ، وَلَا يَرَانِي ، ثُمَّ لَأَنْ يَرَانِي ، أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِ مَنْ أَهْلِهِ وَمَالِهِ مَعَهُمْ " ، قَالَ أَبُ وَإِسْحَاقَ : الْمَعْنَى فِيهِ عِنْدِي لَأَنْ يَرَانِي مَعَهُمْ ، أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ وَمَالِهِ ، وَهُوَ عِنْدِي مُقَدَّمٌ وَمُؤَخَّرٌ .
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported so many 'ahadith from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and one among them was that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) is reported to have said: By Him in Whose Hand is the life of Muhammad, a day would come to you when you would not be able to see me, and the glimpse of my face would be dearer to one than one's own family, one's property and in fact everything. This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Ishaq with a slight variation of wording.

Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: The purpose of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was to encourage and urge the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum) to be present in his gatherings both during travel and at home, so that they could learn the guidance and teachings of the Shariah from him, adopt his way, and remember it in order to convey it to those who would come after them. This is because a time would come when they would regret any negligence in attending his gatherings, and seeing him would become more beloved to them than their own families and wealth. For this reason, upon the passing of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), the world became dark before the Companions (radi Allahu anhum), and they became strangers even to themselves.
