Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: The meaning of "Muqaffi" is "Aqib" (the last in succession), the one who comes at the end of all, or the one who follows the path of the previous prophets. "Nabi Tawbah" (the Prophet of Repentance), the one who enjoins repentance, by following whom repentance is accepted and mercies descend, the one who emphasizes mutual mercy and compassion and enjoins mercy.

Some people have mentioned ninety-nine names for you (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), some have stated more than three hundred (300), and Imam Ibn al-Arabi al-Maliki has claimed in Sharh Tirmidhi that there are a thousand. However, most of these names have been coined by those people themselves. In fact, some of the Divine Names (Asma’ Allah) have also been considered as names of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), for example: al-Awwal (the First), al-Akhir (the Last), al-Batin (the Hidden), whereas these attributes belong exclusively to Allah Ta’ala.
