Anas reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had the best disposition amongst people. He sent me on an errand one day, and I said: By Allah, I would not go. I had, however, this idea in my mind that I would do as Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) had commanded me to do. I went out until I happened to come across children who had been playing in the street. In the meanwhile, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came there and he caught me by the back of my neck from behind me. As I looked towards him I found him smiling and he said: Anas, did you go where I commanded you to go? I said: Allah's Messenger, yes, I am going.

Hadith Commentary:
Benefits and Issues:
This hadith establishes that Anas radi Allahu anhu, due to the forgetfulness of childhood, would sometimes, even regarding tasks he intended to do, say in an oath-like manner that he would not do them. However, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would not take offense at this and would understand that he was saying this out of childish ignorance, and that he would in fact do the task. Then, when Anas radi Allahu anhu would go, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would keep an eye on him. If he saw him engaged in play with other children, he would stand by them, and then, quietly and lovingly, would clasp Anas’s neck from behind. But he would not express anger; rather, he would say, “O dear Anas, have you not gone yet?” And Anas, with great innocence, would reply, “I am just going.” And at this, due to his noble character, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would remain silent.
