This hadith is listed as number 5969 in Maktaba Shamila

and I bear witness to the fact that I heard it from Abu Sa'id Khudri also, but he made this addition that he (the Holy Prophet) would say: They are my followers, and it would be said to him: You do not know what they did after you and I will say to them: Woe to him who changes (his religion) after me.

Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: Numerous hadiths regarding the Prophet’s (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) Pond (Hawd) have been narrated from many Companions (radi Allahu anhum). Therefore, according to all Ahl al-Sunnah, your Pond will be the largest and most expansive in the Plain of Resurrection, and into this Pond, two channels from the River Kawthar of Paradise will flow. For this reason, it is also referred to as the Pond of Kawthar. Only those people will be able to reach it who are destined to drink from it, and then those people will not experience thirst in the Plain of Resurrection. And if it is accepted that there will be no thirst in Paradise either, then people in Paradise will not consume beverages due to thirst, but rather will drink purely for enjoyment and pleasure.

As for those who, during the era of Abu Bakr (radi Allahu anhu), after your passing, became apostates, they will be prevented from approaching the Pond. However, since they were Muslims during your blessed lifetime, they will attempt to approach you, and you too will consider them your companions. Therefore, you will call them and wish to give them water to drink, but you will be told, “You do not know what actions they committed after you.” At that point, you will disassociate yourself from them and say, “Suhqan suhqan (be gone, be gone), keep them away, keep them away.” And this Pond will be before the Scale (Mizan) and the Bridge (Sirat).

(Sharh al-‘Aqidah al-Tahawiyyah, p. 229, Maktabah al-‘Irfan)

From this it is proven that you (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) do not possess knowledge of the unseen, nor are you observing the actions of the Ummah at that time. If you were observing the actions of the Ummah, then it would not have been said to you: “You do not know what they did after you.”
