Hadith Commentary:
Vocabulary of the Hadith:
‘Arraf:
One who tells the location of a lost or stolen item, or who claims to know certain matters through some causes and preliminaries, and who makes predictions about the future.

Benefits and Issues:
If a person affirms the statements of an ‘arraf or a kahin (soothsayer), and acts upon them, then for forty days he will not receive the reward, benefits, or blessings of prayer, even though he will have fulfilled his obligation. Therefore, acceptance here does not mean that the prayer is invalid or incorrect, but rather that it does not attain the level of acceptance.
