Ibn Abbas (RA) reported that the name of Juwairlya (the wife of the Holy Prophet) was Barra (Pious). Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) changed her name to Juwairiya and said: I did not like that it should be said: He had come out from Barra (Pious). The hadith transmitted on the authority of Ibn Abi 'Umar is slightly different from it.

Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: The name of Umm al-Mu’minin (Mother of the Believers) Hazrat Juwayriyyah bint al-Harith radi Allahu anha was Barrah (meaning piety, obedience). The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam changed her name from Barrah to Juwayriyyah, because although the former expresses piety, it also carries the risk of bad omen. However, from the perspective of good omen, keeping such a name is permissible, provided that it is not intended for self-praise or to express one’s own piety.
