Hadith 2119

Anas reported that Umm Sulaim gave birth to a child. She said to him: Anas, see that nothing is given to this child until he is brought to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) in the morning, so that he should chew some dates and touch his palate with it. I went to him in the morning and he was in the garden at that time having the mantle of Jauniyya over him and he was busy in cauterising (the camels) which had been brought to him (as spoils of war) in victory (over the enemy).

Huwaitiyyah:
Striped like a fish.

Benefits and Issues:
This hadith establishes that the Imam may himself mark or brand the animals of the public treasury (Bayt al-Mal) as a means of distinction and identification, and according to some, there is consensus (ijma‘) of the Companions (radi Allahu anhum) on this matter.

Hadith Commentary:
Harithi is a nisbah (attribution) to Harith.
Perhaps he began making these cloaks; in some narrations, it is "Khaybari."
In some, it is "Juni," which is a nisbah to Banu al-Jawn.
Hafiz said that the Juni cloak is most common here.
Thus, the correspondence with the chapter heading is established.
There are many benefits to possessing or wearing a black cloak, and the greatest benefit is that keeping such a cloak refreshes the memory of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), which is the greatest felicity for us. Allahumma arzuqna, ameen.
Harithi is a nisbah to a cloth-maker named Harith.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
"Khameesah" refers to a black cloak which is attributed to Harith. It is possible that this person from the tribe of Quda‘ah used to make such woolen cloaks. Some scholars have read it as "Juniyyah," which is attributed to Banu Jun, or its color was black and white, and on this basis it was called Juniyyah.

(2)
There are many benefits to this black woolen cloak:
The greatest benefit is that by keeping such a warm black cloak, the memory of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is revived.
Aishah (radi Allahu anha) states that she dyed a woolen cloak black for the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), and he wore it, but when he perspired in it and sensed the smell of wool, he removed it and cast it aside.
