Hadith 2114

وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ أَيُّوبَ ، وَقُتَيْبَةُ ، وَابْنُ حُجْرٍ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ يَعْنُونَ ابْنَ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ الْعَلَاءِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَن رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " الْجَرَسُ مَزَامِيرُ الشَّيْطَانِ " .
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: The bell is the musical instrument of the Satan.

Benefits and Issues:

It is not permissible to tie bells or bell-like objects around the necks of animals.


The prohibition of other musical instruments is also established from the ahadith.


Similarly, keeping a dog is impermissible if it is merely for display of awe or for adornment.
If it is with the intention of protection, then it is permissible.
