Hadith Commentary:
(1)
In one narration, it is reported that Aisha radi Allahu anha said:
A thick cloak made in Yemen was there, and the blanket was also of the same kind which you call mulabbadah.
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab al-Fard al-Khums, Hadith: 3108) (2)
In reality, libdah refers to that piece of cloth which is used as a patch. The blanket of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was patched, or its weaving was such that it formed four squares and it appeared as if it had patches. In any case, such garments were used by the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, therefore there is no harm in wearing or using them.
And Allah knows best.

Benefits and Issues:
Wearing thick clothing brings about strength, firmness, and masculine qualities in one’s temperament. Accordingly, the Commander of the Faithful, Umar ibn al-Khattab radi Allahu anhu, used to require his governors to wear thick clothing. On the other hand, thin and soft clothing increases delicacy in one’s temperament. However, depending on circumstances and interests, it is permissible to wear woolen, cotton, thick, or thin clothing.
