باب فَضِيلَةِ الْمُوَاسَاةِ فِي الطَّعَامِ الْقَلِيلِ وَأَنَّ طَعَامَ الاِثْنَيْنِ يَكْفِي الثَّلاَثَةَ وَنَحْوِ ذَلِكَ:Chapter: The virtue of sharing a small amount of food, and the food of two is sufficient for three, and so on.
Hadith 2059
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَي بْنُ حَبِيبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " طَعَامُ الْوَاحِدِ يَكْفِي الِاثْنَيْنِ ، وَطَعَامُ الِاثْنَيْنِ يَكْفِي الْأَرْبَعَةَ ، وَطَعَامُ الْأَرْبَعَةِ يَكْفِي الثَّمَانِيَةَ " . وَفِي رِوَايَةِ إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمْ يَذْكُرْ سَمِعْتُ ،
Jabir bin 'Abdullah reported: I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Food for one person suffices two persons and food for two persons suffices four persons, and food for four persons suffices eight persons; and in the tradition transmitted on the authority of Ishaq there is no mention of the fact that he heard it directly (from the Holy Prophet).

حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ .
A hadith like this is reported on the authority of Jabir but with a different chain of transmitters.

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا ، وقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " طَعَامُ الْوَاحِدِ يَكْفِي الِاثْنَيْنِ وَطَعَامُ الِاثْنَيْنِ يَكْفِي الْأَرْبَعَةَ " .

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " طَعَامُ الرَّجُلِ يَكْفِي رَجُلَيْنِ ، وَطَعَامُ رَجُلَيْنِ يَكْفِي أَرْبَعَةً ، وَطَعَامُ أَرْبَعَةٍ يَكْفِي ثَمَانِيَةً " .
