Salama bin Akwa' reported on the authority of his father that a person ate in the presence of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) with his left hand, whereupon he said: Eat with your right hand. He said: I cannot do that, whereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: May you not be able to do that. It was vanity that prevented him from doing it, and he could not raise it (the right hand) up to his mouth.

Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) saw Busar bin Ra’i Ashja’i eating with his left hand and said, "Eat with your right hand." However, since he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) perceived from the circumstances that his saying, "I am not able to," was merely an excuse, he supplicated, "May you not be able to use that hand." From this, it is understood that if someone is stopped from doing something contrary to the Shariah and is advised to act according to the Shariah, he should not ignore it out of arrogance, nor should he consider this guidance insignificant. Otherwise, it may happen that Allah Ta’ala immediately holds him accountable and deprives him of one of His blessings.
