Abu Zubair reported that he heard Jabir bin 'Abdullah saying that there was presented to Allah's Messenger (the flesh) of the lizard, but he refused to eat that, saying: I do not know; perhaps it (lizard) might (be one of those natives of) the distant past whose (forms) had been distorted.

Hadith Commentary:Benefits and Issues: From the content of this hadith, it is established that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) stated this matter in the beginning, when it had not yet been made known to him that the descendants of those who were transformed (masukh) do not continue. When he was informed of this, he permitted their consumption.

´Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah:` That a man from his people hunted a rabbit or two and slaughtered them with Marwah. Then he hung them up until he met the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), so he asked him about that, and he (ﷺ) told him to eat them.

Explanation: 1: With the condition that the stone is sharp and blood flows from it—this is the meaning of "ma anhara ad-dam" (that from which blood flows): whatever causes blood to flow, eat from it.
2: The opinion of the scholars is correct, because the hadith of the chapter supports their statement.
3: That is, Shu’bi narrated from both Muhammad bin Safwan and Jabir bin Abdullah.
