باب فَضْلِ الرَّمْيِ وَالْحَثِّ عَلَيْهِ وَذَمِّ مَنْ عَلِمَهُ ثُمَّ نَسِيَهُ:Chapter: The virtue of Shooting and Encouragement to learn it, and criticism of the one who learns it and then forgets it
حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَلِيٍّ ثُمَامَةَ بْنِ شُفَيٍّ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عُقْبَةَ بْنَ عَامِر ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ ، يَقُولُ : " وَأَعِدُّوا لَهُمْ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ مِنْ قُوَّةٍ سورة الأنفال آية 60 ، أَلَا إِنَّ الْقُوَّةَ الرَّمْيُ ، أَلَا إِنَّ الْقُوَّةَ الرَّمْيُ ، أَلَا إِنَّ الْقُوَّةَ الرَّمْيُ " .
It has been narrated on the authority of Ibn Amir who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say-and he was delivering a sermon from the pulpit: Prepare to meet them with as much strength as you can afford. Beware, strength consists in archery. Beware, strength consists in archery. Beware, strength consists in archery.

During the time of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), the best offensive and defensive weapon was archery, through which harm could be inflicted upon the enemy. From this, it is understood that there is an exhortation to prepare the best weapons of one's own era and to attain proficiency in them. Its original meaning is "to throw," therefore, under this, every type of projectile weapon is included.

(Rami) means to throw something in order to hit a target. The mention of archery here is symbolic; rather, the intended meaning is that, as a Muslim, it is necessary to acquire training in the use of contemporary weaponry.

➊ A Muslim should be superior to the disbelievers in every type of weaponry.
➋ The original meaning of (ramy) is "to throw." In the Prophetic era, the only weapon used from a distance by throwing was the arrow, which is why it is translated as "archery." However, according to its original linguistic meaning, every kind of rifle, gun, Kalashnikov, cannon, and missile, etc., is included in this.
➌ Muslims should pay special attention to such weaponry for their defense that is used from a distance, and they should also prepare the devices for launching them (such as rocket launchers and bomber aircraft, etc.).
