Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Abdul Aziz Alvi
Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: From the first hadith of Abu Hurairah (radi Allahu anhu), it is established that removing something harmful from the path of people is a highly beloved act to Allah, which can become a means of a person's transformation. And from the second hadith, it is understood that there are certain types of deaths which become a cause for an increase in a person's reward, and these have been described as martyrdom (shahadah). In this hadith, their number has been counted as five, but this number has gradually increased; some have counted them up to fifty.

Hadith Commentary:

Because he did not tolerate causing hardship to the creation of Allah and, for their comfort and ease, he picked up and threw away that branch, lest it might prick someone’s foot.

This is what is called human compassion, which is the essence of all the teachings of Islam.

Shaykh Abdul Sattar al-Hammad
Hadith Commentary:
(1)
Someone might think that moving an object lying in the path is not permissible because it involves acting without permission. Imam Bukhari rahimahullah established a chapter heading to clarify that if such an object is causing harm to people, then picking it up and removing it is a source of reward. In this way, one brings comfort to Allah’s creation, and it may prevent someone from being hurt by stepping on it. This is what is called human compassion, which is the essence of Islam’s teachings.

(2)
From this, it is also understood that one should not consider even a small deed to be insignificant; it is possible that this very act may become a means of salvation with Allah.

Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: From this hadith, it is understood that sometimes a seemingly minor deed attains such a degree of acceptance with Allah that a person's entire life is transformed, and by adopting the path of righteous conduct, he enters Paradise.

Benefits and Issues:
A person should never consider any good deed insignificant or trivial at any time; one does not know which action, at what moment, may be pleasing to the Lord of all worlds and become a means of his forgiveness.

In short, removing an obstacle from the path—whatever kind it may be—is a part of faith and a means of forgiveness, and conversely, placing an obstacle in the path is forbidden (haram) and impermissible.

Benefit:
In this hadith, the true nature of Allah Ta'ala's attribute of being Most Forgiving, Most Merciful (Ghufurur-Rahim) is described, that is, Allah Ta'ala provides opportunities for His servant to be forgiven. If He wills, Allah may forgive a person due to the smallest of deeds, and whomever He wills, He may destroy and ruin all the deeds of his entire life due to a minor mistake and consign him to Hell.

From this, it is also established that Allah Ta'ala does not commit even an atom's weight of injustice, and it is also understood that Allah does not waste anyone's deeds, except when a person himself nullifies his deeds due to showing off (riya'), opposition to the Sunnah, corruption of intention, corruption of beliefs, or earning through unlawful means.
