It has been narrated on the authority of Sulaiman bin Buraida who learnt the tradition from his father. The latter said that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: The sanctity of the wives of Mujahids is like the sanctity of their mothers for those who sit at home (i. e do not go out for Jihad). Anyone who stays behind looking after the family of a Mujahid and betrays his trust will be made to stand on the Day of Judgment before the Mujahid who will take away from his meritorious deeds whatever he likes. So what do you think (will he leave anything)?
This tradition has been narrated by the same authority through different chain of transmitters.
A version of the tradition narrated on the authority of 'Alqama bin Murthad has a differently worded end: It will be said to the Mujahid: Take from his noble deeds whatever you like. Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) turned to us and asked: What do you think (will he leave anything)? - (i. e. he will take away everything).
Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
1) The concept of betrayal (khiyanat) is very broad. Mistreating them, deceiving them, or seducing his wife and leading her astray, etc.—all of these are included within it.
2) "He will leave it"—when every person will be in dire need of good deeds and each and every good deed will be precious, it is impossible that anyone would be negligent in taking a good deed, especially when he is given free rein to do so.

Benefits and Issues:
➊ The protection of the lives, wealth, and honor of the families of the mujahideen who are engaged and occupied in jihad and fighting, and serving them, is an act of immense reward and merit.
➋ And displaying betrayal or wickedness towards them is akin to someone behaving in such a manner with his own mother.
➌ And by analogy, this ruling applies to those who are absent from their homes for other intellectual boundaries of Islam, such as in the pursuit of teaching and learning.
➍ Therefore, it is obligatory upon their relatives and other members of society to fully safeguard and honor the families of such individuals, just as they would protect their own mothers.

Benefit:
In this hadith, the virtue of the mujahideen is mentioned, and the women of their households who remain at home have been given the status of mothers. When a mujahid goes out for jihad or departs to serve the religion in any field for the sake of the religion, his family women should be shown great respect, and not, upon finding them alone, should anyone attempt to violate their honor.
