Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Affan narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, Thabit narrated to us, from Anas ibn Malik. And Abu Bakr ibn Nafi‘ narrated to me—and the wording is his—Bahz narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, Thabit narrated to us, from Anas ibn Malik, that a young man from Aslam said: O Messenger of Allah, I want to go out for battle but I do not have anything with which to prepare myself. He said: Go to so-and-so, for he had prepared himself but fell ill. So he went to him and said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sends you greetings of peace and says: Give me what you have prepared. He said: O so-and-so (female), give him what I have prepared, and do not withhold anything from him. By Allah, do not withhold anything from it, so that it may be blessed for you.
Anas bin Malik said “A youth of Aslam said “Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I wish to go on an expedition, but I have no property to make myself equipped. He said “go to so and so Ansari who prepared equipment (for the battle), but he fell ill and tell him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has conveyed his regards to you, and then tell him “Give him all the equipment you have made. He came to him and told him that. He said to his wife “O so and so, give him all the equipment I have made and do not detain anything from him. I swear by Allaah, if you detain anything from him, Allaah will not bless it.

Benefits and Issues: ➊ It is necessary that any item or wealth that has been specifically dedicated for Allah, and if a person is unable to spend it himself, then he should entrust it to someone else. Especially, equipment for jihad—there is blessing in spending it and lack of blessing in withholding it. If an intention of vow (nadhar) or endowment (waqf) has been made regarding such wealth, then it is obligatory to spend it oneself or to give it to someone else. Otherwise, it is recommended (mustahabb).
