It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Of the men he lives the best life who holds the reins of his horse (ever ready to march) in the way of Allah, flies on its back whenever he hears a fearful shriek, or a call for help, flies to it seeking death at places where it can be expected. (Next to him) is a man who lives with his sheep at a hill-top or in a valley, says his prayers regularly, gives Zakat and worships his Lord until death comes to him. There is no better person among men except these two.

Benefits and Issues:
➊ The life of jihad is the highest form of life.
➋ The objective of the mujahid is to fight the enemies of Allah and to protect the land of the Muslims from the disbelievers. He does not desire rank, medals, rewards, or fame.
➌ To desire martyrdom and to participate in jihad with the intention of attaining a martyr’s death is a very great virtue.
➍ In times of tribulation, it is permissible to adopt a secluded residence away from the general population in order to safeguard one’s religion. However, this seclusion should not be like that of Christian monks or Hindu ascetics, who completely cut themselves off from people; rather, the purpose is to avoid participating in people’s evil deeds. One should, according to one’s ability, continue to participate in good deeds.
➎ Prayer (salah) and zakat are the most important acts of worship; negligence regarding them is not permissible under any circumstances.
