It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Dharr (RA) who said: I said to the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) : Messenger of Allah, will you not appoint me to a public office? He stroked my shoulder with his hand and said: Abu Dharr, thou art weak and authority is a trust. and on the Day of Judgment it is a cause of humiliation and repentance except for one who fulfils its obligations and (properly) discharges the duties attendant thereon.

Hadith Commentary:
Benefits and Issues:
From this hadith, it is understood
that a person should avoid accepting positions and responsibilities of a certain kind,
especially in situations where he is not capable of fulfilling the duties and requirements of that office.
Otherwise, this position will become a cause of humiliation and regret for him on the Day of Resurrection.
However, if he is qualified for the office and can fulfill its responsibilities with excellence and can uphold the demands of justice and fairness, then this will become a cause of elevation and virtue for him,
as will be mentioned in the next chapter.
