Hadith 1715

Abu Hurairah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Verily Allah likes three things for you and He disapproves three things for you. He is pleased with you that you worship Him and associate not anything with Him, that you hold fast the rope of Allah, and be not scattered; and He disapproves for you irrelevant talk, persistent questioning and the wasting of wealth.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Abdul Aziz Alvi
Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues:

➊ "Hold fast, all together, to the rope of Allah": This means to adhere to the religion with complete firmness and strength, and to adopt it in a state of unity and solidarity.

➋ "And do not be divided": Do not split into factions and groups. This proves that, despite differences in issues, forming groups and sects on their basis is not correct. Allah only likes the unity and solidarity of the Muslims.

➌ "Qīla wa Qāla": Both can be in the past tense or as verbal nouns. The purpose is that engaging in purposeless, futile debates or, without necessity, quoting various opinions in religious matters without investigation and caution, or merely to assert one's dominance and scholarly prestige, debating without research is not correct.

➍ "Asking too many questions": Without need or necessity, asking people for wealth merely to increase one's possessions, or asking about issues that have not yet arisen and are not likely to arise at present, or in which there is some kind of ambiguity and complexity, or asking about the reality and nature of matters of the Barzakh (intermediate state) and affairs of the Hereafter, or asking such questions that lead a person into doubt and confusion—for example, "Allah created all creatures, so who created Allah?"

➎ "Wasting wealth": That is, to be extravagant and wasteful, or to spend wealth on unlawful (non-shari‘ah-compliant) activities.
