Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: Just as the one who takes usury (riba) is a criminal and sinful, likewise the one who gives usury and the one who assists in it are also sinful. Therefore, employment in a bank is impermissible, because if a bank employee assists in usurious transactions—for example, if he writes up such a contract or keeps its accounts—then this is participation and cooperation in a sinful act. Furthermore, in terms of wages, he receives usurious wealth, which is unlawful wealth. If he is merely a security guard or a sweeper and does not assist in usurious transactions, even then he will receive his wages from unlawful wealth. Therefore, this situation is also not commendable; it is better to avoid it, as will be mentioned in the next chapter.
