Hadith 1476

'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) sought our permission when he had a (turn to spend) a day with (one of his wives) amongst us (whereas he wanted to visit his other wives too). It was after this that this verse was revealed: "Thou mayest put off whom thou pleasest of them, and take for thee whom thou pleasest" (xxxiii. 5). Mu'adha said to her: What did you say to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) when he sought your permission? She said: I used to say: If I had the option in this I would not have (allowed anyone) to have precedence over me.

Hadith Commentary:
Benefits and Issues:
The intent of Aisha radi Allahu anha was this: she did not wish to be deprived of the blessings and goodness that come from the explanation, companionship, service of, and benefit from the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.

Benefits and Issues:
In verse 51 of Surah Al-Ahzab, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, explicitly granted His Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) a concession regarding the matter of turns among his wives. However, despite this concession, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) continued to uphold the obligation of fair division.

The preference given by Aisha (radi Allahu anha) to herself was not due to any personal desire, but rather because of the honor of service that was attained by being close to him, and above all, because it was a means for the descent of blessings and elevation of ranks with Allah.
