Yuhannis, the freed slave of Zubair, narrated that when he was sitting with'Abdullah bin 'Umar (RA) during the days of turmoil, his freed slave-girl came to him. After saluting him she said: Abu Abdul Rahman, I have decided to leave (Madinah) for the time is hard for us, whereupon'Abdullah said to her: Stay here, foolish lady, for I have heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: For one who shows endurance on the hardships and rigour of it (of Madinah) I would be an intercessor or a witness on his behalf on the Day of Resurrection.

Hadith Commentary:
Benefits and Issues:
In this hadith, if the word (aw) is for categorization and division, then its meaning will be that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam will intercede for the sinners among the people of Madinah and will testify in favor of the righteous, or he will testify in favor of the people of his own era and intercede regarding those who come later. If (aw) is in the meaning of "waaw" (and), then the intercession will be for righteous deeds and for the fact that this servant remained in Madinah enduring hardships and difficulties with patience, and this will be in favor of the people of his own era.

Jurisprudential Explanation (Tafaqquh):
➊ Residing in Madinah Tayyibah and patiently enduring the difficulties encountered while living here is an extremely virtuous deed.
➋ Intercession is true, with the permission of Allah the Exalted.
➌ After Makkah Mukarramah, Madinah Tayyibah is superior to all other cities and all other regions.
