باب اسْتِحْبَابِ تَقْبِيلِ الْحَجَرِ الأَسْوَدِ فِي الطَّوَافِ:Chapter: It is recommended to kiss the black stone during circumambulation (Tawaf)
Hadith 1271
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، جَمِيعًا عَنْ وَكِيعٍ ، قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى ، عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ غَفَلَةَ ، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ عُمَرَ : قَبَّلَ الْحَجَرَ وَالْتَزَمَهُ ، وَقَالَ : رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِكَ حَفِيًّا " ،
Suwaid bin Ghafala reported: I saw Umar (RA) kissing the Stone and clinging to it and saying: I saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) having great love for you.

وَحَدَّثَنِيهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ، قَالَ : وَلَكِنِّي رَأَيْتُ أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِكَ حَفِيًّا ، وَلَمْ يَقُلْ : وَالْتَزَمَهُ .
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Sufyan with the same chain of transmitters (and the words are): "That he ('Umar) said: But I saw Abu'l-Qasim (ﷺ) having great love for you." And he did not mention about clinging to it.

To show kindness, generosity, and compassion to someone; to pay attention to them.
Benefits and Issues:
According to most of the Imams, it is permissible to place the forehead or the cheek on the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad). However, Imam Malik rahimahullah is of the view that prostrating (sajdah) or placing the cheek on the Black Stone is an innovation (bid‘ah), but Qadi ‘Iyad al-Maliki has declared his opinion to be rare and isolated.
