Abu Hurairah (RA) reported: We were talking about Lailat-ul-Qadr in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and he said: He who amongst you remembers (the night) when the moon arose and it was like a piece of plate (at the fag end of the month in a state of waning).

Hadith Commentary:
Vocabulary of the Hadith:
Jafnah:
Refers to a bowl, and shaq means half or one-half.
The purpose is that this night is among the last nights,
because the moon is in this state during the last nights.

Benefits and Issues:

Laylat al-Qadr,
Qadr has various meanings,
1.
Reverence or greatness:
Allah said:
They have not appraised Allah with true appraisal,"
This night possesses greatness and honor.
Because the Noble Qur’an was revealed in it,
the angels descend, and goodness, blessings, mercy, and forgiveness descend. The value and worth of deeds performed in it increase, and the doer attains honor and status.

2.
Qadr (restriction and constriction):
Allah said:
Whose provision is restricted,"
Because its precise, definite, and certain knowledge is not available,
it is not known in the light of knowledge, or due to the abundance of angels, the earth becomes constricted.

Qadr:
In the meaning of decree (taqdeer),
Taqdeer means that Allah, according to the demands of His wisdom,
creates something with a specific measure,
a specific quality and form, and for a specific quantity and duration. The rulings for the entire year,
the rise and fall of nations, life,
death,
provision,
and decisions regarding rain are determined on this night.
Allah said:
"Every wise matter is decreed in it."
All wise decisions are made in this blessed night.

4.
(Qadr):
Power and might,
On this night, the manifestation of Allah’s power occurs—a single night’s worship becomes a cause for reward greater than a thousand months,
for the fulfillment of every matter, by the command of their Lord, the angels and Jibril (Gabriel) come,
and everywhere, peace spreads for the Muslims and believers.

A night of goodness, blessing, increase, and divine bounty,
in which a blessed book like the Qur’an was revealed.
The statement of Allah, the Exalted, is:
﴿إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ﴾ "Indeed, We sent it down during the Night of Decree," and elsewhere He said:
﴿إِنَّا أَنـزلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةٍ مُبَارَكَةٍ﴾ "Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night," and the Noble Qur’an was revealed in the month of Ramadan.
Therefore, He said:
The month of Ramadan in which the Qur’an was revealed,"
Thus, it is established that Laylat al-Qadr is not outside of Ramadan, but which night is it? Its precise determination is difficult because its identification was shown to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam several times in a dream, and each time, due to some reason, he forgot it.
For this reason, sometimes the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
"Seek it in the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan,"
sometimes he said,
"Seek it in the last seven nights," and sometimes he said:
"Seek it in the odd nights of the last ten nights," and sometimes he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam mentioned its sign and indication.
In this way, he did not specify it so that people would not restrict worship to a single night.
Therefore, there is much difference among the scholars regarding its determination.

Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah has transmitted forty-five (45)
opinions regarding it.
The correct view is that it is an odd night in the last ten nights, and it keeps changing among them,
although the indications mentioned by Abdullah ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhu, that Allah’s preferred number is odd, and among odd numbers, the most preferred is seven:
seven earths,
seven heavens,
seven days,
seven circuits of tawaf,
seven limbs of prostration,
seven rounds of sa’i, and in Laylat al-Qadr there are nine letters,
and this word appears three times in this surah, so there are twenty-seven letters, etc. And the certainty of Ubayy ibn Ka’b radi Allahu anhu indicates that it occurs most often on the twenty-seventh,
but it is not that it is always this night.

Laylat al-Qadr:
It is according to each region or country, and the people of every country should determine the odd nights according to their own fasts.
