Juwayriyah, the wife of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said that Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came to her and said: Is there anything to eat? She said: Messenger of Allah, I swear by God, there is no food with us except a bone of goat which my freed maid-servant was given as sadaqa. Upon this he said: Bring that to me, for it (the sadaqa) has reached its destination.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Abdul Aziz Alvi
Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: This hadith establishes that if a person for whom it is permissible to receive charity (sadaqah) gives that charity to someone else as a gift, then even if it is not permissible for the latter to receive charity, it will be permissible for him to accept it as a gift. This is because it is no longer considered charity. Furthermore, it is also understood that it was permissible for the freed slaves (mawali) of the noble wives (azwaj mutahharat) to receive charity. Although, regarding the freed slaves (mawali) of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), there is a difference of opinion.
