باب إِعْطَاءِ الْمُؤَلَّفَةِ وَمَنْ يُّخَافُ عَليٰ إِيمَانِهِ إِنْ لَّمْ يُعْطَ ، وَاحْتِمَالِ مَنْ سَأَلَ بِجَفَاءٍ لَّجَهْلِهِ وَبَيَانِ الْخَوَارِجِ وَأَحْكَامِهِمْChapter: Giving to those whose hearts have been inclined (towards Islam) and to those for whose faith there is fear if they are not given anything, and putting up with the one who asks rudely due to ignorance, and the Khawarij and rulings regarding them
Hadith 1057
حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ ، حَدَّثَنَا إسحاق بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الرَّازِيُّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ مَالِكًا . ح وحَدَّثَنِي يُونُسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ إسحاق بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : " كُنْتُ أَمْشِي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعَلَيْهِ رِدَاءٌ نَجْرَانِيٌّ غَلِيظُ الْحَاشِيَةِ ، فَأَدْرَكَهُ أَعْرَابِيٌّ ، فَجَبَذَهُ بِرِدَائِهِ جَبْذَةً شَدِيدَةً نَظَرْتُ إِلَى صَفْحَةِ عُنُقِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَقَدْ أَثَّرَتْ بِهَا حَاشِيَةُ الرِّدَاءِ مِنْ شِدَّةِ جَبْذَتِهِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : يَا مُحَمَّدُ مُرْ لِي مِنْ مَالِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي عِنْدَكَ ، فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَضَحِكَ ، ثُمَّ أَمَرَ لَهُ بِعَطَاءٍ " ،
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: I was walking with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and he had put on a mantle of Najran with a thick border. A bedouin met him and pulled the mantle so violently that I saw this violent pulling leaving marks of the border of the mantle on the skin of the neck of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) . And he (the bedouin) said: Muhammad, issue command that I should be given out of the wealth of Allah which is at your disposal. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) turned his attention to him and smiled, and then ordered for him a gift (provision).

حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ يُونُسَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي سَلَمَةُ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، كُلُّهُمْ ، عَنْ إسحاق بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ ، وَفِي حَدِيثِ عِكْرِمَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ مِنَ الزِّيَادَةِ ، قَالَ : " ثُمَّ جَبَذَهُ إِلَيْهِ جَبْذَةً ، رَجَعَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي نَحْرِ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ " ، وَفِي حَدِيثِ هَمَّامٍ : " فَجَاذَبَهُ حَتَّى انْشَقَّ الْبُرْدُ ، وَحَتَّى بَقِيَتْ حَاشِيَتُهُ فِي عُنُقِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Anas bin Malik (RA) through another chain of transmitters. And In the hadith transmitted by Ikrima bin 'Amir there is an addition: "He (the bedouin) pulled his (mantle) so violently that the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) was drifted very close to the bedouin." And in the hadith transmitted by Hammam, (the words are): "He pulled it so violently that the mantle was torn and the border was left around the neck of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ."

The noble character of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was such that he did not take any notice of this Bedouin’s action; rather, he dismissed it with a smile and even granted him charity.
Fidāhu rūḥī sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
There was a cloak on his blessed body.
This is the correspondence between the chapter and the hadith.

At that time, there was a cloak on his blessed body; it is from this that Imam Bukhari rahimahullah established the chapter heading.

In reality, you would not be harsh with anyone from whom you hoped for acceptance of Islam.
The Qur’an itself has testified to the exalted character of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
May my father, my mother, and my soul be sacrificed for him.
