Abu Hurairah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: O people, Allah is Good and He therefore, accepts only that which is good. And Allah commanded the believers as He commanded the Messengers by saying: "O Messengers, eat of the good things, and do good deeds; verily I am aware of what you do" (xxiii. 51). And He said: ' O those who believe, eat of the good things that We gave you" (ii. 172) He then made a mention of a person who travels widely, his hair dishevelled and covered with dust. He lifts his hand towards the sky (and thus makes the supplication): "O Lord,O Lord," whereas his diet is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, and his clothes are unlawful and his nourishment is unlawful. How can then his supplication be accepted?

Benefits and Issues:
(1)
Allah, the Exalted, is pure and free from every defect, deficiency, and weakness; therefore, He accepts only that which is pure. Unlawful and forbidden wealth cannot attain the honor of acceptance in His sight. Thus, giving impure and forbidden wealth in charity is self-deception and fraud, for Allah cannot be deceived. For this reason, Allah, the Exalted, has commanded His Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and his followers to consume pure wealth and perform good deeds, because only by consuming lawful (halal) sustenance are good deeds praised (and charity is also a good deed, and only one whose wealth is lawful and pure can perform it).
(2)
Allah, the Exalted, is self-sufficient and free of need; He is not in need of charity and alms. He commands man to give charity for his own benefit and betterment, so that on the Day of Resurrection, even a single date that was spent sincerely, with pure intention, and from lawful and appropriate wealth, will be for a person as beneficial as a mountain, or even greater.
(3)
Just as impure and forbidden wealth is not accepted by Allah, likewise, an impure person who has been raised and nourished on forbidden wealth, and who eats, drinks, and wears forbidden wealth, cannot attain the honor of acceptance in the sight of Allah. Such a person cannot hope for the acceptance of his supplication (du'a); for the acceptance of supplication, it is a fundamental condition that one’s earnings be pure and lawful. If, apparently, someone’s supplication is accepted as a form of istidraj (gradual respite), then this is by the will of Allah, and its basis is His wisdom.

Explanation:
1:
O Messengers! Eat of the good things and do righteous deeds. Indeed, I am well aware of what you do. (: al-Mu’minun: 51)

2:
O you who believe! Eat of the pure things We have provided for you, and drink. (: al-Baqarah: 172)

3:
It is understood that among the many conditions for the acceptance of supplication (du'a), one of the conditions is that a person's means of livelihood must be lawful (halal); all things related to eating, drinking, wearing, and covering should be acquired through lawful means. Only then can one hope for the acceptance of supplication.
