Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent us on an expedition towards Najd. Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) states: We obtained a great many things as spoils there. The narrator says: Then our companion, who was our leader, gave each of us a camel as a gift. Then we brought those items to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). After the deduction of the khums (one-fifth), the share we received was twelve camels each. Thus, each one of us received, along with the camel our companion had given us as a gift, thirteen camels. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say anything to our companion regarding the accounting of that camel.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent us on an expedition towards Najd. Twelve camels each came into our shares. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave each of us one camel as a gift.

It is narrated from Hazrat Habib bin Salamah that in the beginning, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to grant a quarter from the spoils of war, then later he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to grant from a third.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ubadah bin Samit that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) initially used to give from a quarter, and later from a third.

It is narrated from Hazrat Habib bin Muslimah that I participated in (jihad) with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me a share from one-third of the (spoils of war).

It is narrated from Hazrat Habib bin Maslamah that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave a gift from one third (of the spoils) after the khums.

Hazrat Muhammad bin Amr narrates that Abu Salamah, Yahya bin Abdur Rahman, and Abdul Malik bin Mughira… and I was also with them… were discussing about Anfal… and gifts…. So they sent someone to Saeed bin Musayyib to ask about this matter. The messenger returned and said that Saeed refused to tell me anything… The narrator says: Then Saeed sent his servant, and he (came and) said: Saeed is telling you that you sent a messenger to me to ask about Anfal… and gifts…. Whereas after the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), there are no Anfal… and gifts….

Hajjaj bin Abdullah Nasri reports that a gift is rightful, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave a gift.
