The Conversion of Abu Dharr (رضی اللہ عنہ) to Islam
Hadith 39358
٣٩٣٥٨ - (حدثنا أبو بكر قال) (١): حدثنا أبو أسامة قال: حدثنا (سليمان) (٢) ابن المغيرة قال: حدثنا حميد بن هلال قال: حدثنا عبد اللَّه بن الصامت عن أبي ذر قال: خرجنا من قومنا غفار أنا وأخي أنيس وأمنا، وكانوا يحلون الشهر الحرام، فانطلقنا حتى نزلنا على خال لنا ذي مال وذي هيئة (طيبة) (٣). قال: (فأكرمنا خالنا وأحسن إلينا فحسدنا قومه فقالوا: إنك إذا خرجت من أهلك خالف إليهم أنيس) (٤)، قال: فجاء خالنا (فنثى) (٥) علينا ما قيل له، قال: قلت: أما ما مضى من معروفك فقد كدرته ولا جماع لك فيما بعد، قال: فقربنا صرمتنا فاحتملنا عليها، قال: وغطى رأسه فجعل يبكي. قال: فانطلقنا حتى نزلنا بحضرة مكة، قال: فنافر أنيس عن صرمتنا وعن ⦗٣٨٦⦘ (مثلها) (٦) قال: فأتيا الكاهن فخير أنيس، قال: فأتانا أنيس بصرمتنا ومثلها معها. قال: (٧) وقد صليت يا ابن أخي قبل أن ألقى رسول اللَّه ﷺ ثلاث سنين، قال: قلت: لمن؟ قال: للَّه، قال: قلت: فأين كنت توجه؟ قال: حيث وجهني اللَّه، أصلي عشاء حتى إذا كان آخر الليل ألقيت كأني خفاء حتى (تعلوني) (٨) الشمس. قال: قال أنيس: (إن) (٩) لي حاجة بمكة فاكفني حتى آتيك، قال: (فانطلق) (١٠) فراث علي، ثم أتاني فقلت: ما حبسك؟ قال: لقيت رجلا بمكة على دينك يزعم أن اللَّه أرسله، قال: قلت: فما يقول الناس له؟ قال: يزعمون أنه ساحر وأنه كاهن وأنه شاعر، قال أنيس: فواللَّه لقد سمعت قول الكهنة فما هو بقولهم، ولقد وضعت (قوله) (١١) على أقراء (الشعر) (١٢) فلا يلتئم على لسان أحد أنه (شعر) (١٣)، واللَّه إنه لصادق وإنهم لكاذبون، وكان أنيس شاعرا، قال: قلت: اكفني أذهب فأنظر، قال: (نعم) (١٤) وكن من أهل مكة على حذر، فإنهم قد شنفوا له وتجهموا له. قال: فانطلقت حتى قدمت مكة، قال: فتضيفت رجلا منهم، قال: قلت: أين الذي تدعونه الصابئ؟ قال: فأشار إليّ، قال: الصابئ، قال: فمال ⦗٣٨٧⦘ علي أهل الوادي بكل مدرة وعظم حتى خررت مغشيا عليّ، قال: فارتفعت حين ارتفعت وكأني نصب أحمر. قال: فأتيت زمزم فغسلت عني الدماء وشربت من مائها، قال: فبينما أهل مكة في ليلة قمراء أضحيان إذ ضرب اللَّه على (أصمختهم) (١٥)، قال: فما يطوف بالبيت أحد منهم غير امرأتين، قال: فأتتا عليّ وهما تدعوان إسافا ونائلة، قلت: انكحا (أحدهما) (١٦) الأخرى، قال: فما ثناهما ذلك عن قولهما، قال: (فأتتا) (١٧) عليَّ فقلت: (هَنٌ) (١٨) مثل (الخشبة) (١٩) غير (أني) (٢٠) لم أُكْنِ، قال: فانطلقتا (تولولان) (٢١) وتقولان: لو كان هاهنا أحد من أنفارنا. قال: فاستقبلهما رسول اللَّه ﷺ وأبو بكر وهما هابطان من الجبل، قال: ما لكما؟ قالتا: الصابئ بين الكعبة وأستارها، (قالا) (٢٢): ما قال لكما؟ قالتا: قال لنا كلمة تملأ الفم. قال: وجاء رسول اللَّه ﷺ حتى انتهى إلى الحَجَر فاستلمه هو وصاحبه، قال: وطاف بالبيت ثم صلى صلاته. قال: فأتيته حين قضى صلاته، قال: فكنت أول من حياه بتحية (السلام) (٢٣)، قال: "وعليك ورحمة اللَّه ممن أنت؟ " قلت: من غفار، قال: فأهوى بيده نحو رأسه، قال: قلت في نفسي: كره أني انتميت إلى غفار. ⦗٣٨٨⦘ قال: فذهبت آخذ بيده، (قال) (٢٤): (فقدعني) (٢٥) صاحبه، وكان أعلم به مني، فرفع رأسه فقال،: "متى كنت هاهنا؟ " قلت: قد كنت هاهنا منذ عشر من بين يوم وليلة، قال: "فمن كان يطعمك؟ " قال: قلت: ما كان لي طعام غير ماء زمزم فسمنت حتى تكسرت عُكَن بطني، وما وجدت على كبدي سخفةَ جوع، فقال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "إنها مباركة إنها طعام طعم"، قال: فقال صاحبه: ائذن لي في إطعامه الليلة. فانطلق رسول اللَّه ﷺ وأبو بكر (وانطلقت) (٢٦) (معهما) (٢٧) قال: ففتح أبو بكر بابا فقبض إلي من زبيب الطائف، قال: فذلك أول طعام أكلته بها. قال: فلبثت (ما لبثت) (٢٨) أو غبرت ثم لقيت رسول اللَّه ﷺ، (فقال رسول اللَّه ﷺ) (٢٩): "إني قد وجهت إلى أرض ذات نخل -ولا أحسبها إلا يثرب- فهل أنت مبلغ عني قومك، لعل اللَّه أن ينفعهم بك، وأن يأجرك فيهم"، قلت: نعم. (٣٠) فانطلقت حتى أتيت أنيسا فقال: ما صنعت؟ قلت: صنعت أني أسلمت وصدقت، قال أنيس: وما بي رغبة عن دينك، إني قد أسلمت وصدقت، قال: (فأتينا) (٣١) أمنا، (فقالت) (٣٢): ما بي رغبة عن دينكما، فإني قد أسلمت وصدقت، ⦗٣٨٩⦘ قال: فاحتملنا حتى أتينا قومنا غفارا قال: فأسلم بعضهم قبل أن يقدم رسول اللَّه ﷺ المدينة، (قال) (٣٣): وكان يؤمهم إيماء بن (رحضة) (٣٤) وكان سيدهم، قال: وقال بقيتهم: إذا قدم رسول اللَّه ﷺ أسلمنا. قال: فقدم رسول اللَّه ﷺ المدينة فأسلم بقيتهم، قال: وجاءت أسلم فقالوا: إخواننا نسلم على الذي أسلموا عليه، قال: فأسلموا، (قال) (٣٥): فقال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "غفار غفر اللَّه لها، وأسلم سالمها اللَّه" (٣٦).
Hazrat Abu Dharr narrates that I, my brother Unais, and my mother left our tribe Ghifar. The people of the tribe considered the sacred months to be permissible. So we set out until we reached our wealthy and well-off maternal uncle. He says: They honored us and treated us well. Their tribe became jealous of us and said, "If you leave with your family, Unais will act against you in this matter." Abu Dharr says: So our uncle came to us and told us what had been said to him. Abu Dharr says: I said, "The good you did before (the honor and kindness), you have now spoiled it. We will not gather with you after this." He says that we went near our camels and mounted them. Abu Dharr says: (The uncle) covered his head and began to weep.
2. Abu Dharr says: We kept traveling until we arrived in the city of Mecca. Abu Dharr says: Then Unais compared his herd of camels with another herd. Abu Dharr says: Then both (Unais and the owner of the other herd) went to a soothsayer, and he declared Unais to be in the right. He says that then Unais came to us with his herd of camels and another herd like it.
3. Abu Dharr says: O nephew! Indeed, I prayed three years before meeting the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. The narrator says: I asked, "For whom did you pray?" He replied: "For Allah." The narrator says: I asked, "In which direction did you face?" He replied: "In whichever direction Allah turned me, I would pray 'Isha. Until when the last part of the night came, I would be found as if I were a sheet, until the sun rose over me."
4. Abu Dharr says that Unais said to me: "I have some work in Mecca, so take care of my responsibilities until I return." He says: So he left and was delayed. He came to me and I asked, "What kept you?" He said: "I met a man in Mecca who is on your religion and claims that Allah has sent him as a Messenger." Abu Dharr says: I asked, "What do people say about him?" Unais said: "People think he is a magician, a soothsayer, and a poet." Unais said: "By Allah! I have heard the words of soothsayers, but his words are not those of a soothsayer. And I have examined his words in the forms of poetry, but it is difficult for anyone to recite them as poetry. By Allah! That man is truthful and the people are liars." Hazrat Unais was also a poet.
5. Abu Dharr says: I said: "You take care of my place (responsibility). I will go and see." My brother said: "Alright. But beware of the people of Mecca, for they dislike this man and speak harshly to those with him." Abu Dharr says: I set out until I reached Mecca. He says: I became a guest of one of them. He says: I asked, "Where is the man whom you call a Sabi'?" Abu Dharr says: He pointed towards me and said, "Seize this Sabi'." Abu Dharr says: Then the people of the valley attacked me with clods of earth, iron, and everything else until I fell unconscious. He says: When I regained consciousness, I got up, and it was as if I were a red statue. Abu Dharr says: Then I came to Zamzam, washed the blood from myself, and drank the water of Zamzam.
6. Abu Dharr says: Then, on a bright and clear moonlit night, Allah caused the people of Mecca to fall asleep. He says: No one came to circumambulate the Ka'bah except two women from among the people of Mecca. Abu Dharr says: Both women came to me while they were calling upon Isaf and Na'ilah. I said: "Marry one of them to the other." He says: Even this did not stop them from their conversation. He says: Then both came to me again, so I said: "They are like pieces of wood." I said this clearly. Abu Dharr says: Then both women went away, crying out and saying, "If only someone from our tribe were here..."
7. Abu Dharr says: The women were met ahead by the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and Hazrat Abu Bakr, while these women...
