Hadith 39344
Hazrat Aamir narrates that I asked Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), or it is said: Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was asked: Who among the people was the first to accept Islam? He replied: Have you not heard the saying of Hassan bin Thabit: "When you remember the sorrow that has reached you from your trusted brother, then remember what your brother Abu Bakr did, who is the best among creation, the greatest God-fearing and just, except for the Prophet, and the one who fulfills his responsibilities. And the other (believer) is a follower, and his testimony is commendable. And among the people, he was the first to affirm the Messenger."
Hadith 39345
It is narrated from Hazrat Hisham bin Urwah that he narrates from his father: On the day Hazrat Abu Bakr embraced Islam, he had forty thousand dirhams with him.
Hadith 39346
Hazrat Mujahid says that in the beginning, there were seven people who openly declared Islam: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Hazrat Abu Bakr, Hazrat Bilal, Hazrat Khabbab, Hazrat Suhaib, Hazrat Ammar, and Umm Ammar Hazrat Sumayyah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was protected from the disbelievers by his uncle, and Hazrat Abu Bakr was protected by his tribe from the disbelievers, but the others were seized and made to wear iron shirts. Then the disbelievers left them to burn in the sun. When their suffering reached its peak, they pleaded, and their plea was granted. Then the tribe of each man who had water came to him and put him in it, then took him away from its sides, except for Hazrat Bilal. When night fell, Abu Jahl came and began to abuse Hazrat Sumayyah, then Abu Jahl struck her with a spear and killed her. Thus, she was the first woman to be martyred in Islam. So Hazrat Bilal considered his life insignificant for the sake of Allah, until the polytheists became desperate and put a rope around his neck. Then the polytheists ordered their children, and they began to drag Hazrat Bilal between the mountains of Mecca. And Hazrat Bilal began to say, "Ahad, Ahad" (One, One).
Hadith 39347
A similar narration is also reported from Hazrat Mujahid.
Hadith 39348
Hazrat Sha'bi says that except for Hazrat Khabbab, whoever asked for something, it was fulfilled for them. But the polytheists placed Hazrat Khabbab's back on hot stones until the moisture of his back dried up. (Perhaps what is meant is the melting of the fat of his back.)
Hadith 39349
Hazrat Qais says that Abu Bakr bought Hazrat Bilal for five uqiyah while he was being crushed under stones. The polytheists said that if you are willing to buy him for one uqiyah, we will (still) sell him to you. Hazrat Abu Bakr said: If you are willing to sell him for a hundred uqiyah, I will (still) buy him.
Hadith 39350
It is narrated from Hazrat Tariq bin Shihab that Hazrat Khabbab was among the Muhajireen and among those individuals who were tortured for the sake of Allah.
Hadith 39351
Ibn Fudayl narrates from his father that I heard Kurdus say that Hazrat Khabbab bin Al-Arat was the sixth to embrace Islam, and his share in Islam was one-sixth.
Hadith 39352
Hazrat Abu Laila Kindi narrates that Hazrat Khabbab came to Hazrat Umar, so Hazrat Umar said: Come closer, for apart from Hazrat Ammar, I do not find anyone more deserving of this seat than you. The narrator says: Then Hazrat Khabbab began to show Hazrat Umar the effects of the torture inflicted by the polytheists on his back.
Hadith 39353
It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah that the first seven people who openly declared their Islam were: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Hazrat Abu Bakr, Hazrat Ammar, his mother Hazrat Sumayyah, Hazrat Bilal, Hazrat Suhaib, and Hazrat Miqdad. So Allah Almighty protected the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) from the polytheists through his uncle Abu Talib, and Allah Almighty protected Hazrat Abu Bakr from the polytheists through his own people. As for the remaining individuals, the polytheists captured them, made them wear iron shirts, and left them to burn in the sun. Then, except for Hazrat Bilal, there was none among them who did not comply with the wishes of the polytheists. Hazrat Bilal considered his life insignificant for the sake of Allah, and he was also considered insignificant by his people. So the polytheists handed Hazrat Bilal over to the children, and they began to drag him through the valleys, while Hazrat Bilal kept saying: "Ahad, Ahad" (One, One).
