Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abdullah bin Aamir bin Rabee'ah narrates from his father that a man, during the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), made two sandals the dowry and married. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) declared his marriage valid.

It is narrated from Hazrat Sahl bin Sa’d that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to a man: Go, she has been married to you and you should teach her a surah of the Qur’an.

Hazrat Ibn Abi Labiya narrates from his grandfather that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever seeks permissibility (of a woman) in exchange for one dirham, then indeed permissibility is established.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Beelmani narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon and said: { أَنْکِحُوا الأَیَامَی مِنْکُمْ } A man stood up and submitted, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! What is the compensation for the bond between them?"

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas that Abdur Rahman bin Auf married for the equivalent of the weight of a date stone in gold, whose value was three dirhams and a third of a dirham.

It is narrated from Hasan that whatever amount the husband and wife agree upon will be the dowry.

Ibn Aun says that I asked Hasan about the amount (of dowry) for which a man can marry? He replied: Gold equal in weight to a date stone.

It is narrated from Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib that if a woman agrees to a stick (as dowry), then that will be the dowry.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn al-Baylmani that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: { وَآتُوا النِّسَائَ صَدُقَاتِہِنَّ نِحْلَۃً } The narrator says: The people asked, "O Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon you! What is the compensation for the bond between them?" He, peace and blessings be upon him, replied: "Whatever thing her family is pleased with." And (Imam) Abu Hanifa's statement is mentioned that: A man cannot marry a woman for less than ten dirhams.
