Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Muhammad bin Nu’man narrates from his father that his father gave him a slave as a gift. And he presented himself before the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) so that he could make the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a witness to this gift. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Have you given such a gift to each of your sons?” He replied: “No!” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Then take this gift back.”

Hazrat Sha'bi says that I heard Nu'man bin Bashir say that my father gave me a gift, so my mother, Umrah bint Rawahah, said: I will not be pleased (with this) until you make the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) a witness to it. Hazrat Nu'man says that (my father) went to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I have given a gift to my son from Umrah, and she has asked me to make you a witness to it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Have you given such a gift to each of your sons? He said: No! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Fear Allah and be just among your children.

Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir narrates this saying of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): I do not bear witness to injustice. And (Imam) Abu Hanifa's opinion has been mentioned that: There is no harm in it.
