Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Masrooq that he says: For a believer, there is nothing better than that grave in which he finds relief from the worries of the world and is safe from the punishment of Allah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Ishaq that he says Hazrat Masrooq performed Hajj and he would only sleep while in prostration.

It is narrated from Hazrat Masrooq that he said: There is nothing comforting in this world except prostrations for the sake of Allah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Marrah that he says: No Hamdani woman has given birth to a child like Hazrat Masruq.

It is narrated from Hazrat Masruq that he says: Whenever a servant takes a step, a good deed or a bad deed is written for him.

It is narrated from Hazrat Masruq that he says: There is no expenditure greater with Allah than conversation.

It is narrated from Hazrat Masrooq that he says: A servant is entitled to have some gatherings in which he is in seclusion, and in them he remembers his sins and then seeks forgiveness for them.

It is narrated from Hazrat Masrooq that he says: I am in the best state of thought when the servant says, "There is neither a measure of wheat in the house nor a dirham."

It is narrated from Hazrat Masruq that he said: A servant is closest to Allah while in the state of prostration.

Hazrat Masruq says: Whoever wishes to have the knowledge of the first and the last, and the knowledge of this world and the Hereafter, should recite Surah Waqi’ah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Amir that a man used to sit with Hazrat Masruq. The narrator recognized him by appearance but was not familiar with his name. The narrator says, then he went out accompanying him. The narrator says, he was the last among those who bade you farewell. So he said, you are the greatest and their leader among all the reciters. And their adornment is in your adornment, and their ugliness is in your ugliness. Therefore, do not speak about poverty and long life concerning yourself.

It is narrated about Hazrat Masruq that when he returned from the place of Silsilah, the people of Kufa came to him, and traders also came to him and began to praise him and said, "May Allah give you the best reward. How self-sufficient you were from our wealth." Upon this, he recited this verse: { أَفَمَنْ وَعَدْنَاہُ وَعْدًا حَسَنًا فَہُوَ لاَقِیہِ کَمَنْ مَتَّعْنَاہُ مَتَاعَ الْحَیَاۃِ الدُّنْیَا }. "Can the one to whom We have made a good promise and he attains it be like the one whom We have given the enjoyments of the life of this world?"

It is narrated from Hazrat Masrooq that he says: It is sufficient for a man's ignorance that he becomes conceited about his knowledge, and it is sufficient for a man's knowledge that he fears Allah.

Hazrat Masrooq narrated that there was a man living in the wilderness who had a dog, a donkey, and a rooster. He says: The rooster would wake them up for prayer, and the donkey was used to carry water here and there, benefiting them, and would carry their tent. The dog would protect him. Then a fox came and took away the rooster. The people were saddened by the loss of the rooster, but the man was pious, so he said, "Perhaps there is good in it." He says that they remained in this state for as long as Allah willed, then a wolf came and tore open the donkey's belly and killed it. So the people were also saddened by the loss of the donkey, but the pious man said, "Perhaps there is good in this." Then the dog also died. So the righteous man said, "Perhaps this is better." Then when they woke up in the morning, they saw that the people around them had been captured, but they were saved. He, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Those people were captured because they had voices and cries, while these people had nothing to make noise. Their dog, donkey, and rooster had died.

It is narrated from Hazrat Masruq that he says: A righteous man went out in the darkness of the night with a bag of dirhams. He wanted to give it in charity, when he met a very wealthy person. He gave this bag of dirhams to him. When morning came, people said: People said: Are you not amazed at such-and-such a man and his wealth? Someone came to him with a bag of dirhams and he gave it to him. When this news reached the man, it was very hard on him. He said: I do not think that it was accepted from me when I gave the bag to that wealthy person.

2. The narrator says: That man went out again one night with a bag and gave this bag to a prostitute woman. When morning came, people said: Are you not amazed at such-and-such a woman? So-and-so came to her and gave her a bag, even though this woman does not prevent anyone from coming to her. When this news reached the man, it was very hard on him. He said: I do not think that this charity was accepted from me.

3. The narrator says: Then that man saw a dream and it was said to him: The charity you gave to the rich man has also been accepted from you, because Our intention was to show him that there are people who give charity, so that he too may develop a desire for it. And as for the woman, she only committed adultery out of necessity. Our intention was to make her chaste.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Sirin that he says Hazrat Masruq used to pray so much that his wife would sit behind him and start crying.

It is narrated from Hazrat Masruq that he says: On the Day of Judgment, those who suffered afflictions will wish that they had been cut with scissors.
